Following on from disagreement at a discussion on the admin noticeboard, should 'Santa Clause' redirect to Santa Claus, to The Santa Clause, to Santa Claus (disambiguation) or to another option? NULL talk

  • I am not familiar with the discussion that occurred on the admin noticeboard. But with regard to the question posed here, 'Santa Clause' is more likely to be a misspelling entered by a user who is seeking 'Santa Claus' than a lazy entry by someone seeking 'The Santa Clause'. Users specifically seeking 'The Santa Clause' will probably tend to include the definite article of the title when performing their searches; those who omit the definite article while searching for the film series will likely already be familiar with Santa Claus (the folk character) and will expect that they should be able to eventually get to articles on the films via the article on Santa Claus. Santa Claus (meaning the folk character) is the primary; from its page there should be a link to a Santa Claus disambiguation page for other uses of the term. • I am in agreement with Dezastru with his comments, they make good common sense. Tiggerjay (talk) 07:14, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Movie is pretty obscure by now. Redirect to Santa Claus. 66.127.54.40 (talk) 18:16, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Santa Claus" (R from typo) is most fitting due to its much greater visibility. Note that the film's title is a pun on misspelling "Santa Claus". czar · · 20:01, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Better to redirect to the film, or a disambiguation page, to inform users of their mistakes (unless the spelling "Santa Clause" referring to Santa Claus is verified as correct, and mentioned in the article). • Hmm tricky one - Ideally I would say redirect to Santa Claus (the Father Christmas type one that isn't actually Father Christmas ), but as there are 2 films called Santa Claus, one with "The Movie" appended, a play, 3 places called Santa Claus and a race horse going by that name, who knows what someone searching for "Santa Clause" is looking for? - I feel that disambiguation is the only realistic way to go here otherwise we risk this debate coming up again. Finally I would like to note that out of all the possibilities redirecting to "The Santa Claus" would be one of my last choices. --wintonian talk 21:15, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment It would seem that there is consensus that the redirect to The Santa Clause is not the right redirect. However, it seems like there is currently two thoughts on this, redirecting to Santa Claus and Santa Claus (disambiguation). It would seem that the disambiguation page is probably the best place for it because that page includes both the fictional person, as well as the movies. • Redirect to Santa Claus (disambiguation). That seems to me to be the safest option. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 02:12, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
