Incorrect reference

The statement "Long used by Native Americans, it became a thoroughfare between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi Valley for explorers, missionaries, and fur traders" in the Savanna Portage section is cited to the NPR NRHP database, which is probably not the right source for that. howcheng {chat} 23:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately it is not possible to link directly to the relevant document in the database. The relevant document, accessed through a search from the linked page, states: "One of the most important avenues of communication between upper Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes regions, used for centuries by Indians, later by explorers, traders, and missionaries." I have added a link to the Axelson article, which should support both parts of the proposition by text appearing on separate pages. Instructions in the NRHP footnote have also been added. This quirk in the National Register information system is a common problem. That is why Wikipedia articles with the NRHP infobox link goes to the search page for the database, as here. There does not appear to be any way to link directly. Kablammo (talk) 00:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
