It wouldn't surprise me if someone found "saxophonics" itself to be a neologism. However, the concepts involved are not new at all, and a lot of history was missing from previous versions (e.g., no mention of the Varitone or Eddie Harris). A neologism at best. This entry seems to define the word as a catchall term for any and extended saxophone techniques, and I've never heard it before; I'm not convinced it's an actual word...or at least it wasn't until someone posted this entry. The policy for deletion doesn't necessarily include neologisms. What might alleviate the "catch-all" quality is to tighten up specific uses of the term. In web searches I see 2 distinct uses. One is a broad use describing any saxophone focussed event, or saxophone focussed appreciation (usually straight toned) and the second use is specific to Skerik and a unique style... electronics are implied if one is familiar with his work. First use of the term I have found actually regards straight-toned playing. See the 1998 All Kooked Out reference below. I've yet to find reference of the term specific to electronics, let alone simultaneous multiple instrument playing, or circular breathing. If there is agreement, maybe multiple instrument and circular breathing could be moved to the article saxophone, or simply removed and this article could be condensed to the two most common implied uses of the term (1-broad use and 2-electronics, etc) as well as disambiguation for the bands now using the term as a name. 1997 London Saxophonic debut album.
1998 Skerik credited "saxophonics" on Stanton Moore's All Kooked Out! ...ironically, Skerik's playing is straight-toned on this album (no effects!).
1999 Skerik credited "saxophonics, keyboards, fx" on Garage a Trois' Mysteryfunk.
1999 UK band Saxophonics first self-noted appearance[1]
2000 Foundation of saxophone school SAXOPHONICS in Thun, and the realization of film music for various Schullehrmittel round his broad musical scene.[2]
2000: Das Quartett SAXOPHONICS formierte sich im Frühjahr 2000 um die drei in Soest lebenden SaxophonistInnen Patrick Porsch (Tenorsax), Frauke Geisweid (Altsax) und Stefan Weber (Sopran- und Altsax).[3]
2003 and more recently: general appreciation for any saxophone event (straight-toned included)
