Northern Rail route query

[edit]

The route boxes show a Northern Rail route on the Sheffield-Hull Line with a preceding station of Brough and a following station of Doncaster - but none of these articles refer to this route. Is the route correct?

First station in Yorkshire?

[edit]

We're now coming up to the 175th anniversary of the station and TV, local newspapers and this article all agree that Selby station was "the first to be built in Yorkshire". Obviously I'm missing something – surely there must have been at least one more railway station, opened at the same time, at the other end of the line? The Leeds and Selby Railway article does mention that: The line opened to passengers on 22 September 1834 from a station at Marsh Lane in Leeds – does this mean that Selby station was one of the two first stations to be built in Yorkshire (the other being Marsh Lane), or did passengers from Selby station merely alight into a field at the Leeds end until the terminus there was ready? Another possibility is that Selby station was built before the Leeds terminus, though they were opened simultaneously; this should be clarified. Tonywalton Talk 08:57, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's also possible that the first train to use the line travelled from Selby to Leeds, as it was common practise for opening trains to travel to the headquarters end of the line for invited guests to enjoy a meal, entertainment etc. If this was the case then Selby would have been the first station to open, even though both would have opened on the same day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.94.137.1 (talk) 15:08, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
