Zhadan is not a "nationalist"

[edit]

The article currently reads:

"Zhadan's active involvement in Ukrainian nationalism began while a student and has continued throughout the various political crises in Ukraine."

I can understand what might have been meant by this -- Zhadan was involved in Maidan and has advocated for causes that pull Ukraine out of Russia's sphere of influence -- but calling his politics "Ukrainian nationalism" would seem to me to associate him far too strongly with the right wing of Maidan around Right Sector, Azov, etc -- whereas in fact, Zhadan identifies as neither left nor right, occupies a sort of left-liberal position in domestic politics, and actively rejects nationalism.

For evidence of this, see his comments in this interview with Calvert:

"Would you say you were a ‘nationalist’ or a ‘patriot’? I’m not a nationalist. A patriot — yes. I’m a patriot and I love my country, my homeland. But the term ‘patriot’ in modern Ukraine and modern Europe has various connotations. I encounter this in Europe and America, where some members of the public equate ‘patriot’ and ‘nationalist’, or take a ‘patriot’ to be a conservative right-winger. But this is very inaccurate. In Ukraine, ‘patriot’ is a synonym for a person who is on the side of our soldiers on the frontlines — someone who supports our country.

Why wouldn’t you call yourself a nationalist? Because I have known Ukraine’s nationalist movement since the 1980s. I have a lot of friends in the nationalist movement, but the ideas of nationalism do not correspond to my vision of Ukraine. Ukraine is much more complicated, and much less clear-cut."

As a result, I am going to revise that line and add this source and quote to the base text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.233.7.3 (talk) 16:56, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have never edited the article. Ymblanter (talk) 09:41, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. You have edited Serhiy Zjadan which you have not written in English. The article was redirected to Serhiy Zhadan as that one already existed. Ymblanter (talk) 09:43, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No mention whatsoever of Zhadan as a musician

[edit]

Zhadan i Sobaky (google Жадан і Собаки) is one of the most renowned bands in Ukraine, and it already has its own article in English wikipedia. This same Serhiy Zhadan of this article is the singer and leader of that band. Yet, there is no mention in this article of Zhadan's musical career or of his music at all.

I definitely don't think that the two articles should be merged; the band is one entity, the singer another. But there should definitely be a section about and a link to the band in this article.
