Notability

[edit]

@Beeeggs: Hi. You do realise that you cannot create an article just like that, specially for an associate cricketer. Normally this player would not have passed WP:NCRIC or WP:GNG. In order to pass GNG, find more news coverage of this player. It might be nominated for deletion by me or someone else otherwise. Thanks. Human (talk) 12:44, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: Do you mind help finding something? Human (talk) 12:47, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, interesting one. He did play 25+ matches for Western Province and a spell at Northants (albeit for the second XI). I'll have a look later for more on him, but failing anything coming up, I'd be tempted to redirect to the List of Portugal Twenty20 International cricketers page for now. I don't know if @Blue Square Thing, AssociateAffiliate, and Rugbyfan22: may have any extra info they can un-earth? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:59, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, technically the club cricket SA source is sigcov isn't it? It deals with him directly and could sit alongside other sources to build coverage - and his exploits with the bat would suggest there will be further coverage. That and his 25 matches, this isn't totally out there in terms of suitability for an article. There are other refs as well and he was mentioned in 2022's Wisden by the looks of it and he was a player-coach for HBS in the Topklaase - top scorer I believe (832 runs and 52). Plenty of bits and pieces - playing for Alexandra Park in the middlesex sort of league I think. Something behind the Cricketer's paywall about his time at Northants 2s as well.
I mean, it's daft that we can't find coverage of his actual first-class career because of the lack of internet archives from SA for that time, but that one direct article and bunch of bits and pieces mean that he might just have enough coverage per ANYBIO. But I think I've just about given up trying to understand the notability criteria now. Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:20, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"But I think I've just about given up trying to understand the notability criteria now" - you and me both. And the comment, below, only makes it more confusing. Shame there was no agreement on grandfathering in notabilty and/or articles before the changes! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:59, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
He haven't played T20I yet so the redirect isnt valid right now. If we dont count the European T10 then he haven't played for Portugal yet either. Mihht as well move it to draftspace for now. Human (talk) 13:37, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@A Simple Human: how is it different to Sirajullah Khadim which you have edited. Beeeggs (talk) 14:10, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Beeeggs: I never created the article, and it was created before WP:NCRIC was updated around November last tear. There's no point pulling out examples, as that article has enough coverage to pass notability. Human (talk) 14:15, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Even with minimal coverage, I'm happy with 25+ matches when in South Africa, I don't buy all this "we need a million references" shite, provided they've played 10+ high level matches in a full member country, that should suffice. StickyWicket (talk) 15:07, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
^^ This. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:28, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've not found anything in a basic search on him. I'm actually surprised at the lack of coverage of someone who's played that many games. My preferred redirect currently would be List of Western Province cricketers which would need to be created, as he's not played internationally yet, but there may be more out there, potentially in Afrikaans or Portuguese language sources, not really an area of expertise this one for me. There you go he debuted. Human (talk) 14:00, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Human. Apologies, yesterday I thought he had already debuted, hence the suggestion for that redirect! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:04, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
