Naming

[edit]

I'd like to request a rename to "Sheap Shearing" or "Sheep shearing" - any thoughts before I put up the request? Lisa 06:03, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Changed my mind -- I'll just copy and remove sections of this article to "Sheep shearing" Lisa 01:56, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

quite a shite page really, it totally neglects all the new zealanders who smashed the records here, which are all australian ones. e.g. david fagan. it also goes on about some revolutionary technique invented by an australian, the most influential and revolutionary technique was invented by the bowen brothers, the whole world uses the technique. also the technique was invented before the one mentioned on this page, so the aussie technique is not really much at all. in fact an aussie probably wrote this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.65.166.210 (talk) 06:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's well written, but the tally-hi method of shearing was designed for narrow gear. It became obselete in 1984 with the legalisation of wide gear in Australia. Nowadays sheep in Australia and Newzealand are shorn to the Bowen Pattern. Of the 13 records recognised by the shearing world record commitee Duane Black holds two, the other record holders seem to be neglected, is this because they sre not Australian? 300 sheep in an 8 hour day is considered a right of passage for experienced shearers in NZ and a gun shearer would be shearing at 400 a day on ewes and almost 500 a day on lambs. How do I go about adding the info into the main page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.189.140.8 (talk) 07:30, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
