As several modern historians have pointed out, the word Śri is an honorific, not part of the king's name. For example, the Allahabad Pillar inscription names Samudragupta's ancestors as Śri Gupta, Śri Ghatotkacha, and Śri Chandragupta. If king Gupta was born in Magadha then why do theories like Bengal and UP exist and why is Mrigasthapana in Bengal 103.180.55.224 (talk) 05:17, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
