Cleaning up this article
[edit]I have just made several significant changes in this article. I have removed extensive lists, much fancruft (I don't mean to use that term offensively, but I don't know a better name for masses of detail of interest only to the subject of the article and his or her fans) and whole sections that I tried to clean up but that left nothing of value after cleaning. I also reorganized a totally chaotic section titled "Her writings" into sections titled "Books", "Recordings" and "Personal life". The article now at least has the general look of a real Wikipedia article and not a bunch of stuff scribbled randomly on a napkin.
The core problem with this article is that it gives no sources at all, so the last thing I did was add the {{Unreferenced}} tag (I did not remove any sources during my cleanup, by the way). Hopefully that tag will move someone to dig up reliable sources for this article, which must exist somewhere if she truly is sufficiently notable to merit an article here.
Since the article gives no sources at all, I would be justified in cutting out even more than I did, but I didn't want to give the impression I have a vendetta against this article or its subject, because I don't. This person seems to have done some worthwhile things in her life and deserves a better article than this one was before I started. Now it at least looks like a real Wikipedia article, with more conventionally titled sections, no mind-numbing lists, obscure awards piled on top of other obscure awards, etc. It still contains enough information (although totally unsourced) to give a reader some idea what the subject has accomplished and why there is a Wikipedia article about her.
If someone wants to add some of that deleted material back into the article, PLEASE try to play by the rules and give reliable sources for the information. Nothing should be added to a Wikipedia article – especially an article about a living person – without a reliable source for each statement. For brand new editors who are unfamiliar with the sourcing requirements here at Wikipedia, this article gives a very good introduction. Please read and follow it. Thank you.--Jim10701 (talk) 11:03, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
