Tai'an → Taian

Tai'an is not the right way to spell the name. According the official 汉语拼音方案, apostrophe (') is used only if there can be different interpretations for a spelling. In this case, either Ta-ian or Taia-n' is not legal. The original statement is for usage of apostrophe is:
ɑ，o，e开头的音节连接在其它音节后面的时候，如果音节的界限发生混淆，用隔音符号（'）隔开

Oppose: The apostrophe (') has a use here...to clearly indicate to the user that there are two syllables, not one. –HXL's Roundtable and Record 14:29, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The 2 Chinese texts translate in Google as "Chinese Phonetic Alphabet" and "ɑ, o, e at the beginning of the syllable syllable attached to the back of the other, if the boundaries of syllable confusion, with the sound symbol (') separated". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:24, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I think the nom misunderstands the rules for transliteration, per WP:Naming_conventions_(Chinese)#Apostrophes. In any case, "Tai'an" Shandong -Wikipedia gets nearly twice as many post-1980 Google book hits as Shandong Taian -Wikipedia. Kauffner (talk) 01:22, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I think it was Wikipedia naming convention misunderstood the official Hanyu Pinyin Proposal. The second rule in WP:Naming_conventions_(Chinese):
  Whenever a syllable ends with -n and the next syllable begins with g-: Zhāng Zhàn'gāng (张占钢) .
