Advertising[edit]

The Products section sounds awfully like ad copy. Does anyone else think it should have a more encyclopedic tone?

Yes I do - the whole article sounds like an ad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.49.219.251 (talk) 06:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Factual error[edit]

I have a bottle of Tanqueray right here and it is bottled at 47.3% ABV (94.6 proof). The article claims it is 40% ABV (80 proof.) Source?

Most spirits are 40% ABV, but many gins are around 47%, including Bombay Sapphire and Beefeater. This is due to the fact that gin is made with neutral grain spirit which is then redistilled with juniper berries (and generally with many other herbs and spices as well.)

Agreed, I used to drink Tanqueray quite a bit and I remember it being that percentage alcohol, along with several other brands of gin. That fact should be verified. AspirinKid 04:52, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Tanqueray in the UK is 43.1% (and Bombay is 40%)Darwin-rover (talk) 21:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Have corrected several other spirits' strengths and ABV numbers tonight - Wiki needs a better way to describe alcohol strength - the definition of proof varies between countries - I only know US and UK so cant comment on Aus, etc. Should we use American proof for their numbers and ABV for Europe to avoid confusion or would that make it hard for people to compare?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.135.26.37 (talk) 00:47, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Hip hop mentions[edit]

Should it be mentioned on the page that Tanqueray was mentioned in several songs on Doggystyle by [[Snoop Dogg]? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.236.137.250 (talk) 23:24, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

In popular culture[edit]

I have again removed this unsourced trivial nonsense. WP:IPC, which a) merely an essay, and b) says:

Exhaustive, indiscriminate lists are discouraged, as are passing references to the article subject.

Most if not all of the mentions in the In Popular Culture section are indiscriminate, and all are merely passing references to the subject of the article.

More importantly, none of them are referenced, and none of them are actual notable facts about Tanqueray, neither of which problem is addressed by WP:IPC. Appeal to IPC isn't necessary, for those very reasons. Non-notable trivia does not belong in an encyclopedia. → ROUX  23:50, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
