To correct this Ewan ,his wife and mother left island late 1970's,Ewan still kept all Lobster / fishing equipment on island . He died 1995 after death of mother and wife
I'm confused by the statement that the island was evacuated after the death of Ewan Macrae in 1974. In the 1990s, I was several times ferried to Taransay by Ewan Macrae, who had - with wife June and mother - been the last person to live there. He died in 1995 at the age, I would guess, of about 60. Was it his father who died in 1974?Manormadman (talk) 12:32, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Haswell-Smith lists the population records as being 5 in 1971 but "abandoned" in 1974. Francis Thompson, writing in 1968 states the the population has "declined to a handful". The general idea is presumably accurate but this specific statement is uncited, so whilst it may well have a been a father or other relative, I think it should be removed and I'll do so in a mo'. Ownership
[edit]Who owns Taransay?Abtract (talk) 23:57, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
According to Haswell-Smith it is John Mackay of Horgabost, haulier and sheep farmer, who bought it in 1967 from a Roddy Campbell. Ben MacDui 10:05, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
