Place of birth

[edit]

The article says "He was born in Busseto. He probably received early musical training in Cremona." But no source is given to support these claims. Is this what Grove says? Willi Apel in his 1990 Italian Violin Music of the Seventeenth Century says he was born in Cremona - see page 62: [1]. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:21, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I had it right in my first draft almost ten years ago. I was using the article in the 1980 Grove (hard copy) ... we didn't do footnotes in those days. Looks like User:Monegasque changed it here. None of my sources give Busseto as place of birth. Antandrus (talk) 20:36, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's quite intriguing. I wonder if User:Monegasque could disclose his source(s) or motivation. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:01, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The article on Italian Wikipedia seems to say he was born in Busseto, which was part of the Diocese of Cremona, so perhaps both are in a sense correct. The Italian article quotes a baptismal register as source, but it's not online to check. --Deskford (talk) 21:06, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah well, Alitalia beckons, I guess. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:08, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
