Noticed a bit of an ongoing dispute about this in the edit history, so I'm starting a discussion about it here on the talk page for consensus purposes. Is this role officially called the Mayor of the Tees Valley or the Tees Valley Mayor?
Going to @UnicornSherbert and @Amakuru, seeing as the two of you seem to know some stuff about the topic and are in the process of moving this page between titles, so you can work out what sources call this role by which name and which sources are the most authoritative or something.
The format of "Tees Valley Mayor" or "Metro Mayor" is informal and incorrect. Every other article for a mayor of a CA or CCA are entitulated "Mayor of X". This page was "Mayor of the Tees Valley" to start with and then was changed to Tees Valley Mayor which I requested to be moved back to Mayor of the Tees Valley (which was approved) and which has been subsequently reverted to Tees Valley Mayor. Both moves to Tees Valley Mayor have been undiscussed. The page should be reverted to Mayor of the Tees Valley, which is consistent with other Mayors of CAs and CCAs. There appears to be two separate discussions on this very issue spread on two separate talk pages. Should we continue with two separate discussions or keep it in one place? Also, I said in the other discussion that the page has been moved back and forth it would be right to WP:MOVP it indefinitely. UnicornSherbert (talk) 20:58, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Blocked sock. The most recent stable title appears to be the current title, so the suggested move would not be a revert of a recent undiscussed move. The identified move was 5 years ago. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:12, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The other ones mentioned above seem less natural without "the" than this one does. In fact, since the article about Tees Valley says "The area is not a geographical valley", including "the" seems misleading. This may be part of why the logo chosen for the mayor says "Tees Valley Mayor" – that avoids including "the". The logo/wordmark for Tees Valley as shown in the article on that subject also doesn't include "the". — BarrelProof (talk) 21:16, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
*:All of this is nonsense when taken with the fact that this is the only mayor which has its article spelled this way instead of the proper way. In any event, what you're saying is also nonsense because the area is referred to as "the Tees Valley" or "Teesside". UnicornSherbert (talk) 23:28, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Blocked sock. Oppose. I really don't care what other such articles are called, but given the mayor's own website says "Tees Valley Mayor", as does the logo in this article (sourced from the brand guidelines, and as far as I can tell, the WP:COMMONNAME too, in sources such as [1] there seems little reason for this to be moved. My only thought would be maybe this should be made sentence case per MOS:CAPS, as some sources just say Tees Valley mayor... But not too hung up on that. I see little reason to favour the proposed target either way. — Amakuru (talk) 21:36, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
