I am not sure that the statement "Tessa lost the Wells parliamentary seat, in a shocking defeat, to the Conservative party candidate" is particularly appropriate or accurate. Firstly, it is highly debatable that it was a shocking defeat. In the wider context of the 2015 General election the Liberal Democrats lost several seats to the Conservatives which had much larger majorities than Wells and which had higher profile MPs (eg Vince Cable and David Laws). Equally, the swing in Wells was not especially large compared to other seats. Additionally Wells had been Conservative until 2010 (when it was lost against the national trend). Thus it was an obvious Conservative target and it was well known the party were aiming to take it, especially as polls showed a national decline in Liberal Democrat support. This can be contrasted with Yeovil which had been gained by the Liberal Party in 1983 and the Conservatives had not come close to winning since. The Conservative victory there was widely seen as a major surprise by political commentators. There is nothing in the article to suggest anyone was greatly surprised by Tessa Munt's result so calling it a shocking defeat seems a) not to be a neutral point of view b) not supported by any evidence c) plain wrong.
