Comments[edit]

Anyone else think this article is rather lengthy and sounds a lot like self-promotion.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.3.16.185 (talk) 04:55, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's pretty much what theCHIVE.com is all about. I had to look up those hoaxes to see what the big deal was because the descriptions don't sound funny. After having gone through them all I've come to the conclusion that theCHIVE is more ham-fisted and self-congratulatory than 9gag. There is no doubt in my mind that they have been editing their own wikipedia page. 96.50.10.234 (talk) 20:39, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why this hasn't been set up for AFD, this article is quite paltry and is indeed self-promoting. 74.116.190.200 (talk) 02:33, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing in here at all about their content theft? They're very well known for jacking content from reddit and posting it elsewhere, among a lot of other places. This has been heavily documented online, but nothing on the wiki? 184.167.52.223 (talk) 03:31, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

TheChive.comThe Chive – Proposed title already redirects here. It appears to me that "TheChive.com" is merely their address; the actual name of the entity is "theCHIVE", or, less promotionally, "The Chive". Powers T 11:51, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support – Using an English phrase seems better than a web site address. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:28, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising/charity?[edit]

This website, or at least the community of people who follow it, has done some remarkable fundraising/charity work in the past via the related site chivecharities.org, and I'm surprised it isn't mentioned at all in this article. Possibly the most notable of their charitable efforts is mentioned here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2153924/Pictured-Bomb-disposal-expert-lost-arms-legs-IED-blast-documents-recovery-online--sets-MASSIVE-fundraiser.html (I'm not sure if that article itself counts as a reliable source, but it's one of many mentions out there). I have little experience editing on Wikipedia, so I'm not comfortable jumping into this myself, but could we perhaps discuss adding something about this in? Thanks! Quad-amputee with double arm transplant was in the news recently, prominently wearing a "Chive" t-shirt. Don't have a source specifically mentioning sponsorship in this context, but might be worth looking for. 84.203.42.194 (talk) 18:20, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chive Charities[edit]

It would be great to add a section about the charity work they do, especially considering they work primarily to raise awareness for causes that often go unrecognized. Here is a summary of what I found on chivecharities.org

According to chivecharities.org they help raise awareness for under recognized causes and all the funds raised go directly to the campaigns. Applications are sent in based on lack of recognition and a couple of grantees are selected and headlined on theChive.com and chivecharities.org. Once it is launched it becomes available to accept the donations through the Chive Fund. A goal is set and the campaigns remain open to donations until the goal is reached. The Chive continues to update the stories and provide the Chive community with information about the campaign after the funds have been raised. “The Chive Fund exists to support people in need of smaller generosities than the headline campaigns, help underfunded campaigns meet their goals, and build support that allows Chive Charities to operate.” Trisigma09 (talk) 21:54, 14 April 2013 (UTC) Lauren C. 4/14/13 [1][reply]

April Fools Day 2018[edit]

For April Fools Day 2018, the site changed its logo to "theHive" Probably the Best Bees in the World. Several bee related videos and galleries were shown, with a dripping honey frame.--Auric talk 15:04, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
