Gem of Amara?

I changed the spelling from Amarra to Amara, because that's how the subtitles on the DVD spell it. If there is some more canonical source for the other spelling, it can be changed back. --Jwwalker 03:10, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Amara" is a Sanskrit word meaning "immortal." Here it may relate to the Amarakosha or "Immortal Treasure," a book of synonyms which may have inspired Roget's Thesaurus. It was compiled over a thousand years ago by the scholar Amarasimha, who was counted as one of the Navaratnas or "Nine Gems" at the court of the legendary emperor Vikramaditya. These terms were all used metaphorically, but in the Buffyverse they have become concrete. NRPanikker (talk) 16:54, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The writer, Jane Espenson, had worked with the cognitive linguist George Lakoff on the metaphorical understanding of event structure in English. Lakoff showed that metaphors were cross-domain mappings in the conceptual system. NRPanikker (talk) 11:37, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
