The Terry Teachout blogs

[edit]

It might not be the normal thing to add a list of blogs to the external refs section, but, in this case, they provide a facinating account of the progress of the collaboration, its challenges, triumphs and limitations.

It will eventially be a long list, since we can assume that he will continue to write about his work right through the opening night of 3 July 2009. But I think it will be worth it: where else can find one an account of a composer's and librettist's collaboration? What if this sort of thing were available in Mozart and Da Ponte's day? Viva-Verdi (talk) 18:56, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The use of the blogs seems fine to me given the notability of their author and their direct relevance to the article. Voceditenore (talk) 06:32, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revertion of removal of links to other versions of the story

[edit]

There was no justification made for removing these, so the removal has bebb reverted.

There are 3 very closely-related versions of the same basic story, starting with Maugham's short story, then the play, then the two films based on it.

Given the composer and librettist's statements that they are creating an "opera noir", there's a clear link to the film - which itself clearly links to the play. Viva-Verdi (talk) 04:01, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and all three links are also present in the lead where they are given the proper context. Dablinks should be used to disambiguate between articles of the same title, and as such they are not necessary here. PC78 (talk) 18:39, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

REVERTED until there is some consensus here from other editors. Viva-Verdi (talk) 02:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Concensus from other editors should not be necessary. Disambiguation guidelines, specifically WP:RELATED and WP:NAMB, are quite specific in this regard. Why do you need these links in addition to the links in the lead? PC78 (talk) 20:51, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think PC78 is right. The disambig guidelines are clear on this, Viva-Verdi--the link between the opera, the story, the play, and the two films is summarized in the text. The parallel between this and the example given in WP:RELATED is quite direct. IceCreamEmpress (talk) 05:10, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
