Q

[edit]

Why is he named Q? It is not a Chinese word. --Error 00:45, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC) Accordin' to the story, the 'author' failed to recall what exactly character is his name, so he used an acronym of 'Quei'(pinyin gui), so Q.

Some have argue that the Q resembles a typical man's head of Qing Dynasty as men are required to wear a long tail of hair by the emperor.

"Q" is short for "Quei 媯," Lu Xun's romanization of what would today be romanized as "Gui."

Romanized by whom? I assume the writer is referring to hanyu pinyin, although, especially with names, that’s hardly the only romanization scheme used in present day. I can’t find this in any online dictionary so I’ll leave it up to someone else to amend this sentence. —Wiki Wikardo 03:32, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats wrong, in the introduction the author debates wheather Ah Q s name is 贵 or 桂 , the character 媯 is not mentionned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.229.166.77 (talk) 23:31, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are the interpretations of the novel taken from a critical source?

[edit]

Are they?

I have modified the part called "observation of China". There are previously quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes so I corrected them and add a couple of stuff. I have not add further interpretation. I noticed someone asks about the critical source problem. I think it is a fair interpretation based on common interpretation of Lu Xun's works. Plus I have not personally read any other significantly different interpretation to this novel, if there is any. The socio-econ approach sounds very fair to me.

Also, there is a whole lot of Lu Xun's own accounts to this piece of work. Many of them are inculded in Lu Xun Quan Ji, which is the Complete Selection of Lu Xun's Works. I do not currently have access to the book but if someone does I suggest taking reference from it. I am pretty positive that everything in the observation part can find adequate reference from Lu Xun himself, and the page would look awesome.

Why was this multiple page article chopped down to a one-paragraph stub? The longer summary was much more useful.
