Prius V vs Prius+

[edit]

Does anybody know if the 7-seater is properly known as the Prius+ or a variant of the Prius V? The 'V' is said to stand for 'Versatile' but it could be conjectured that it is also the roman numeral V (ie 5). Are the only differences the number of seats inside? All official references by Toyota to the 7-seater that I have seen call it the Prius+ (usually along the lines of a market choosing between the 5-seater Prius V and the 7-seater Prius+). Does anybody have a good reference to calling the 7-seater a Prius V? Or does anyone have a reference that the Prius+ concept car is just a foretaste of a 7-seater Prius V ?  Stepho  (talk) 00:14, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it is confusing considering the RS about the Toyota Prius+. This one and this one seem to clarify the issue, or make it more confusing? Prius v --> US and Prius+ --> Europe, and both will be available in Japan, not clear about the name. As usual Toyota is blurring the info, so I suggest we wait a bit more and keep for the time being the Prius V and Prius+ separate, though I believe they are the same car so one article should be enough. Based on the RS you might go ahead and make a clarification in the Prius V article.--Mariordo (talk) 02:44, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, Toyota always did like to change one small option in a car and then claim it was a new model. Here they say Australia is undecided whether to import the 5-seater Prius V or the 7-seater Prius+. Here goes so far as to say the only visible difference is the seats (ignoring uprated suspension, different size batteries, crush zones, etc). All the 'official' references I can find say 5-seater Prius V or 7-seater Prius+, so I'm included to keep them separated that way, but with links to each other (eg Prius V article could say 'The Prius+ is a visually similar 7-seater vehicle based on the same mechanicals'). But I say this knowing full well that they are still technically concept vehicles and/or pre-production vehicles, that Toyota does change names at the last minute and also uses different names in different markets (Vitz anyone?)  Stepho  (talk) 05:09, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Toyota proves me right with their last minute renaming of both of them to 'Priusα' for the Japanese market - apparently without a space between 'Prius' and 'α', to cause further "discussions". Anyway, for the Japanese market, the 7-seater is the ZVW40W and the 5-seater is the ZVW41W according to http://toyota.jp/priusalpha/001_p_001/spec/spec/index.html . The ordinary Prius continues as the in parallel as the ZVW30. Who knows what they will call the wagons in other markets. Thanks to Mariordo for bringing the new name to our attention.  Stepho  (talk) 06:56, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Verso" is a common Toyota term for a wagon version of another platform. Corolla Verso, Ipsum Verso known as the Avensis Verso in Australia (and in no way like the Avensis built in UK, one of which I saw in Canberra last week with GB plates!). Citroën uses "Picasso" in the same way. BTW the Prius c is the Aqua in Japan. I just edited the page for Australia. I can only find one specification/configuration in Australia and no choice of options apart from metallic paint. The 7-seater makes sense as the other 3 models don't have massive load space or payload. I can understand Toyota not risking an expensive i-Tech variant in a market that doesn't buy many wagons or minivans. But not offering sat nav? I have the Japanese brochure the offers 7 satnav options on top of the dozens of other options. model codes

[edit]

Wasn't sure if I should add this to the main article but thought it might be of interest to other editors. The 7-seater is known as the ZVW40W-AWXGB and the 5-seater is known as the ZVW41W-AXXGB. Curious that the 7-seater uses body type code (2nd letter after dash) W while the 5-seater uses body type code X. W is usually used for passenger wagons (ie more people inside) while X is usually used for cargo vans (ie less people inside). Not really important, it just appeals to me as someone who likes to decode things.

Also, it looks like the XW40 alpha/v/+ will run in parallel to the XW30 sedan, which hints that the next generation will be the XW50/60. But that's just me gazing into my crystal ball.  Stepho  (talk) 05:06, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

edit conflicts

[edit]

Sorry Mariordo for the edit conflicts. I certainly didn't mean to override your changes. Isn't the WP software supposed to avoid or point out any conflicts? I've had plenty of times in the past where I've typed stuff in, only to have it flagged as a conflict - but at least it has always told me about the conflict.  Stepho  (talk) 05:57, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is fine, I thought it might be an edit conflict, but I did not got the message and it was weird it happened twice. I hope I did not remove any of your edits after restoring. Cheers.--Mariordo (talk)
My stuff survived. In the future, I'll wait a little longer after someone else has done a block of edits (ie lessen the likelihood of me stomping over a follow-up edit).  Stepho  (talk) 03:16, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Toyota Prius vToyota Prius Alpha – Vehicle was originally released under this name in Japan, the other names should redirect to this, not the other way around. Oosh (talk) 12:04, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Opposed - too early. It is only sold in Japan at the moment but it has been announced as due for release in the US in mid 2011. The policy is to name the article after the name used in English speaking markets whenever possible. So far the concept cars have been named Prius + (7-seater) or Prius v (5-seater) but Toyota seems to like changing names, so who knows what name will be used. If we change it to Prius Alpha now, then it is highly likely we will be changing the article name yet again in a month or two when the US version is released. Also consider that the Japanese name is 'プリウスα' (transliterated as 'Priusα') using the 'α' symbol instead of the spelt-out word 'alpha'. [1]  Stepho  talk  00:30, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Opposed as per Stepho-wrs arguments. This issue has been discussed before at Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Automobiles here.--Mariordo (talk) 03:18, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

140.0.89.223 believes the Toyota Isis is a predecessor of the Prius V, citing the Japanese WP page. The Japanese WP page does indeed list it as a predecessor but gives no reason or reference. The Isis is a true MPV, whereas the Prius V is a wagon. Anybody have any thoughts?  Stepho  talk  09:46, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Both the Isis and Prius V is equally the 7-seater MPV, but with different body style. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.0.89.223 (talk) 14:43, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Prius V is really a 5-seater that has 2 small, occasional seats at the back. The Isis is considerably larger with 7 full-size seats and much easier access to those seats via a massive passenger entry door. Saying they are the same is like saying a Hilux and a Mack truck are the same.  Stepho  talk  23:08, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
