Change of gauge

[edit]

"The track was changed from ... broad gauge to ... standard gauge" — This wording makes the process sound like a straightforward change of gauge. However, tracks were taken up in the 1960s and the roadbed was then abandoned for years. An article in either La Nación or La Prensa (probably appearing in 1971, but not at hand) related that one rail was pulled up overnight the length of the route, with the other rail being removed subsequently.
