Expansion: synching up data from references

[edit]

I'm taking a stab at expanding this article, a town that has special meaning to me, but I'm not a resident. I periodically run against information that appears to be quite dated (although published within the past 10 years). If anyone sees this who lives in Tryon or the area and can nudge me along where the information is afield, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:51, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

1. Removing {{citations needed}} templates in the lead where the information is cited in the article WP:LEADCITE:

  • census citation - see section 7.0 Demographics
  • equestrian - see section 2.6 Horse community
  • fine arts - see section 3.1 Art
  • William Tryon - see section 2.2 Early English settlement
  • Nina Simone - see section 6 Notable residents

2. Removed sentence "Horses are a large part of the Tryon and Polk County Community. [citation needed]

3. Added citation for first two sentences in the Agriculture section.

4. Returned Cherokee information. It's relevant to Tryon history, DeSoto's visit in their village now known as Tryon and the treaty with William Tryon across this land. Am in the process, though, of reducing the content signficantly.

5. Removed {{Advert|date=May 2011}} The lead which has some touristy type of information has been removed.

6. Moved story of Tryon in Native American / DeSoto exploration in "Tryon in the media" as I've seen in other articles about towns and cities.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contents in leads for towns and cities

[edit]

Just because I'm curious, is it verboten to put information in leads for cities and towns about: 1) major annual events, 2) climate? Thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:59, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lost some key points

[edit]

In the recent changes we've lost some key points about Tryon's history: that people came to Tryon for relief from the heat in South Carolina, etc., that it was a place of respite for people with T.B. and that because of the people attracted to the area it was a center of creative development for artists and writers. Any suggestions about how I can get some of those points integrated in a way that will fit the standard approach to documenting a town? Or a good town article to use as a basis (I started using a Featured Article about a town in Mississippi as a guideline, but maybe there's a better tack to take.) Thanks!!!--CaroleHenson (talk) 05:17, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New technology section - Neutral point of view

[edit]

The following information appears to be promotional. See WP:SOAP about self-promotion / soap-box or WP:POV for guidelines about neutral point of view. Since this is an encyclopedia - and the information was added under "Economy" perhaps it would be helpful to rewrite to state the types of businesses in Tryon and include a discussion about technology. Or if Tryon would be considered a notable town for technology maybe a bit more background about the significance of the industry to the area, etc. Just a thought. --CaroleHenson (talk) 00:51, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
