Why does this article keep getting deleted?
[edit]I don't understand. Why do people think that this article should redirect to European turtle dove? It doesn't make any sense! As I clearly explained, turtle-doves are all members of the genera Spilopelia, Streptopelia and Nesoenas; not just European turtle doves! In fact, I'm just surprised that Turtle-dove ever redirected to European turtle dove! I can give you a huge list of turtle-doves which are not European turtle doves: spotted dove, laughing dove, Eurasian collared dove, pink pigeon, Malagasy turtle dove... the list is endless! I'm pretty sure that Turtle-dove should be an article in its own right and not redirect to European turtle dove! --How come why not (talk) 08:07, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
- That is why I redirected it to Streptopelia; that article inclusively covers the other two genera and (unless I am missing something) all of the species you mention. —teb728 t c 08:41, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
- As I said in my edit note, there's something else to be said about common usage - Though, do create a disambiguation page if you think that would be good. Duplicating existing articles and blanking existing ones will not help. JWNoctistalk to me 08:45, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

- Or, start a discussion at Talk:European turtle dove about this split-off to get a wider discussion about how to handle the disambiguation. —C.Fred (talk) 12:44, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Hidden history
[edit]The history of this article and this talk page were hidden by C.Fred, when they deleted them. I re-created both of those pages; but that just made it appear as though I was their original creator, which I was for the talk page, but not for the article. I remember that the earliest revision of Turtle-dove mentioned the Bible, and later revisions had a taxobox which had red as its color, no image and stated the genus as Streptopelia and species as S. turtur. Shouln't the history of both pages be unhidden for hisorical reference? --How come why not (talk) 15:42, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Don't redirect article to Streptopelia
[edit]Streptopelia does not include the laughing dove, spotted dove, Madagascar turtle dove, Rodrigues pigeon, pink pigeon, and Réunion pink pigeon. Even if it did, it would not mean that this article should redirect to Streptopelia, as that would be the scientific name. Instead it would be the other way around; Streptopelia redirecting to this article.--How come why not (talk) 11:54, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
