Judge/lawyer confusion

[edit]

This article has previously contained the following text:

"Subsequent investigation revealed that many of the loans were in default, and that the company had been paying investors with money from other loans. Bankruptcy court judge Linda Riegle likened the operation to a Ponzi scheme.[1] The same judge ordered the appointment of a trustee to oversee matters when it was disclosed that Hantges and Milanowski owed $9.8 million to a reputed former associate of Gambino crime family boss John Gotti.[2]"

The first source cited is quoting a lawyer for the investors, not a judge. Please be careful to cite the correct person when citing sources. If the judge actually said this, then we need a citation that shows the judge saying it, not a lawyer.

Additionally, it would be more useful to use primary-source documents. I don't have time at the moment to do a complete search, but I did a quick google on ponzi linda riegle and found a reporting source that sounded like it was appropriating the wikipedia text quoted above, and found some primary source documents. One court transcript is here [3] In this transcript, Reigle uses the word Ponzi but is not directly likening the case to one, instead she is describing illegal transfers of "trust-like" funds under Nevada state law. Someone with more time might want to find a way to parse this that would flow well in the article and add it. --Falcomadol (talk) 13:20, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
