Largest union building: disputed[edit]

University of Bristol Union claims to have the UK's largest students union building, as does University of Sheffield Union of Students. Until anyone can find any evidence, I'm changing this to "one of the largest..."

Bristol is able to provide a self-reference (http://www.bris.ac.uk/internationalcentre/europe/erasmusin/arrival.html#union) I couldn't find one for Sheffield, can any one else?

I've said that they claim to be the largest instead. 172.206.219.225 20:45, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took an interview for Burst Radio with the former General Manager, Keith Brackstone, just before he left, in which he stated that the Union building is almost certainly no longer the largest, but was when first built. Unfortunately that's one of the interviews I never got around to podcasting - I will try to make it available online here as soon as possible, but it might be a few weeks due to the summer vacation. --Peeky44 (talk) 11:22, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BURST should have its own wiki page : Dispute[edit]

This section moved to separate page for Burst Radio Willm2008 (talk) 00:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is unfair that BURST does not have an independent wikipedia page. I strongly oppose the amalgamation of it with the UBU. Kg4107 22:36, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. But there are just too many deletionist wikipedians which vote en masse to delete/redirect/merge articles. When you consider every other student radio station doesnt get merged its a little unfair but thats wikipedia for ya 172.206.219.225 20:47, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BURST should have its own page on Wikipedia like all the other student radio stations out there. I also strong oppose the amalgamation with UBU, it doesn't fit well on to this page anyway.

BURST is part of UBU. However, apart from funding issues, it operates completely independently of the union, so I think it should have a separate article, with a short section on the UBU article. Also, compare the situation in Wikipedia with that of the Epigram --Peeky44 12:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep it was merged cos of people called 'deletionists' - they can be a bit of a pain at times. Oh I havent heard of x therefore x is not notable. 137.222.229.74 17:03, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BURST is completely a part of UBU - it is in it's constitution as a UBU media product; it is a media product RUN by UBU! You cannot oppose it's amalgamation with UBU - UBU own it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jg5912 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus was reached on this a year ago. And by the argument just put forward, all pages about wholly-owned subsidiary companies should all be deleted - that would be a very radical restructuring of Wikipedia! Jg5912, is there a good reason you deleted all the 'Criticism' section? It was well sourced, and remember that Wikipedia is not censored - I have reinstated it. Also, it was probably accidental, but editing without including an edit summary is officially frowned upon. --Peeky44 (talk) 18:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Burst (website address and AM) HIGHQ(2).jpg[edit]

The image Image:Burst (website address and AM) HIGHQ(2).jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Logo needs updating[edit]

Current logo is out of date - new logo can be found on ubu website but I have no idea how to add this to the article! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hb21 (talkcontribs) 00:24, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Largest Students' Union[edit]

"The Union claims to have the largest students' union building in the country." I have removed the preceding statement because it was not verified by the citation given. Furthermore, I am a student at the university and my friends and I recall being told in an introductory talk that it is the 2nd largest building in the country - I understand that this cannot be used as a source for including such a statement in the article, but it does provide a sufficient basis to remove this statement. Improv troupe notability[edit]

At present, there is a separate section for the improvised comedy troupe, Bristol Improv; however, this is just one of the 170+ societies that are part of UBU. If we listed all of them here, the page would become very unwieldy. As far as I can tell, there is no reason to single out this society on the UBU page, so I intend to delete the section at some point, unless there is an encyclopaedic reason to keep it here. --IainHallam (talk) 02:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree this is not needed in the article. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:06, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

UBU picture needs updating to a Bristol SU one[edit]

Can someone do this? You need to have a special user that's made quite a few edits before. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BRISTOLSU (talkcontribs) 10:57, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Naming[edit]

What is the common name for this article, it seems the union is calling itself Bristol SU now. Should we move the page? --Aloneinthewild (talk) 01:02, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
