Are Sub-urban railways to be included in the list ?

This is with reference to the recent edits made by User:Secret of success adding Chennai Suburban railway to the list. From what I understand the general definition of rapid transit is mass transport systems that are grade separated from regular traffic, which suburban systems in India are not. If I am wrong and suburban systems in India qualify as Rapid transit, I request even the Mumbai locals, Kolkata suburban, Hyderabad MMTS be included in the list. If not a new article can be created titled Suburban railway systems in India. Thank You. WorLD8115 (TalK) 14:35, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

I did not notice that there was a separate article for the commuter rail. That article can accommodate the commuter rail in India better than this one. Regards. Secret of success · talk 16:03, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

• In my opinion there should be separate third section for Sub-urban railways apart from metro rail and monorail, Chennai MRTS is not a metro rail but it is included in the list of metro rail. Ashok4himself (talk) 10:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

• • There is a separate thread for suburban rail systems, so it is not needed in this article. I'm not sure if to include Chennai MRTS, because it is grade separated from suburban traffic but does not use modern rolling stock, signalling (ATP/ATO), AFCs & other facilities similar to Delhi & Bangalore metros.WorLD8115 (TalK) 11:21, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

The name of article has been changed to Urban rail transit in India. Hence suburban rail and trams have been included in the article. Please see Urban rail transit and Urban rail transit in China for justification. Punyaboy (talk) 11:04, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

• • That's true, logically BRTS should not be a part of this article. I was going to remove it and put it into its own article initially, but then i found that Urban rail transit in China includes BRTS. Hence i put it on hold. Please feel free to move BRTS section to its own article. I have noticed that there is a redirect Bus rapid transit in India which points to List of bus rapid transit systems#India. You can convert this redirect into a complete article.

• • BUT, BEFORE THAT, there are many issues which need to be taken care of. Let me list them.
  • a. What about Urban rail transit in China. BRTS should be removed from it as well. Else somebody in future will put BRTS back in this article, citing the chinese one. Should we start such discussion on its talk page too? so that we can have Chinese editors views too.
  • Please see this template (there is discussion after template too)

• • In this Asia template, for many countries, the article "Rapid transit in countryname" also includes commuter rail (same as suburban rail in india), monorail and trams. For ex, Rapid transit in Malaysia. If you see other continent templates like for Europe , NA, SA etc there also, rapid transit strangely includes commuter rail, monorail and trams and sometimes BRTS too. But in fact the Rapid transit article only refers only to metro, subway, underground, whereas monorail, light rail, trams etc are own article in their respect.

• • My concern is the nomenclature and grouping of sections within an article should be more or less same for all countries in the world. There is a serious need of standardisation for urban transport articles in Wikipedia.

What do you think bro, should we start this worldwide discussion on some general page rather than on an article's talk page. In this way we can invite editors all over the world to give their views and to find a solution. Please reply to my comments.Punyaboy (talk) 09:03, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

• • • Sorry for the late reply. I don't think we need to take that article as base as it is not a featured article. Going by Urban rail transit, BRTS should not be included here as it is not rail based or rail-guided. A new article named BRT systems in India can be created as UK has List of guided busways and BRT systems in the United Kingdom and also Rapid transit in the United Kingdom, the latter including only mass & light rail urban systems. I'm sorry but I cannot participate in discussions and uniformity debates for these type of articles as I'm not much active on wiki anymore and edit rarely. Good luck with it. Change of Article Name

Wouldn't "Urban rail transit in India" be a better name for this article because the term "Rapid transit" is mainly given just to metro systems around the world. Broman178 (talk) 08:41, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
