I think the article should be changed as a whole, it has only information about the olympic games of 1924 and 1928 but back in those days the tournament was played with the main team, players didnt have to be 23 year-olds or under.
I'll wait some days before I do it myself, taking into account it would mean deleting nearly every information outside the infobox and I'm not sure what should be put in its place.—Nuno93 (talk) 02:04, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- I agree that work needs to be done, but I don't think anything should be deleted. The problem comes from calling it an Olympic U-23 team, when it wasn't such until after the modification to player restrictions in 1992. If you look at other South American teams' Olympic/U-23 squad pages, they also include pre-1992 info and results, the issue with that only becomes evident with Uruguay due to their absence in Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing, but should be somewhat remedied after London. If we limit it strictly to a U-23 article, when you get to the other teams you'll end up having to scrap a lot more than here, including Argentina's medal in 1928, and worst, Brazil's medals in the 80's that don't really fit anywhere else as they were neither a main or a U-23 squad.
- What I think should be done is rename the articles' heading to X (where X is the country) national Olympic football team, and include in the body that after 1992 they became U-23 teams. What I would add to Uruguay's article specifically are the opposition of Uruguay's National Olympic Committee and the efforts made by Atilio Narancio and Jules Rimet so that the football team could participate in Paris 1924 and their decisions to withdraw from participating in the 1936 and 1976 editions despite qualifying. We could also look into adding some details of recent qualification campaigns, namely the last minute elimination for 2008 and their return in 2012. —190.135.30.85 (talk) 17:26, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. Im going to rename the article to "Uruguay Olympic football team", like Germany Olympic football team and Great Britain Olympic football team.—Nuno93 (talk) 21:38, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
