Vasai Road???

[edit]

Vasai Road is the name of the station on Mumbai suburban railway, rather than Vasai itself.I suggest to rename this article to Vasai, merge with another article named Vasai-Virar and create another article for Vasai road station. SidMilan (talk) 20:23, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The data available for History of Vasai is unbelievable.I'm beginning to doubt about truthfulness of this content. Please comment here if you find any misleading content. It seems we would need another article for History of Vasai.Currently I'm organizing the content in this article, later on I'm intending to verify it.Please help me in this regard.SidMilan (talk) 20:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done, Previously Vasai redirected to Vasai-Virar. I have moved "Vasai Road" to "Vasai". --Deepak D'Souza 13:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The truthfulness of history is really questionable. How can we verify it? --Wild MaCkeR (talk) 15:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever is written here, i have heard most of it from the elders... but there is no way to verify! -alokz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.207.218.185 (talk) 21:06, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doing a cleanup and meeting WP quality standards

[edit]

The current article is seriously looking like a travel guide and must be this way on WikiTravel. I want to start cleaning this up soon and make it meet WP quality standards. Please comment on what must be their and what must be not..

Following are some points I feel must change..

  • I wonder about Vasai's History being in article. I think we can have seperate page for it, because history is pretty big and no references to it are present.
  • Communities in Vasai must be their but not the description of communities itself. Again move it to seperate pages like "Kupari" has a seperate page.
  • Coming to list of temples and churches, list is pretty big. I need comments on this. I prefer that temples, churches of great importance like oldest churches or temples with annual festivals must only be mentioned.
  • "Schools in Vasai" must be renamed to "Educational institutions" and sub-categories for school, colleges, engineering colleges, etc can be written.
  • In "Places of Interest", I see their are some temples mentioned which can be listed in "Places of worship" section above.
  • Festivals or annual extravaganza's like Kala Kreeda, Malvani Jatra, Marathi Cultural Programs must be mentioned.
  • I really think the theatres, gyms and hotels list must not be their because its for travelers use and must be on WikiTravel.
  • And what does "References" section show?
  • And finally, which places photo must be added to this article? I think Vasai Fort must be their along with any old church(which?), Chimajiappa Ground(Is spelling correct?), Suruchi Beach....

I have done Good cleanup. Hope you like it KensplanetTC 15:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well that is a lot of non-sense out! What about other stuff I mentioned above? Shall I start changing the article accordingly? And what about history? --Wild MaCkeR (talk) 15:26, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
History is a word to word copyright violation from websites. The Page will be delted soon if you create it KensplanetTC 15:38, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So can I start editing/adding rest of stuff in article? And you've not deleted history from article.. What regarding community descriptions? --Wild MaCkeR (talk) 15:45, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please edit/modify the article. History will be deleted only after it is verified that it is copyright violation. I'am currently checking that. KensplanetTC 15:51, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vasaikar Communities: Bhandari, Koli, pan mali, brahaman, Christians ?

[edit]

There is no special mention of Bhandari & Kolis despite their presence in Vasai & areas nearby. There are areas like Naigaon Koliwada, Vasai koliwada, etc where Kolis reside normally. There are Bhandar Alis in various villages or some villages like Holi are residential area for Bhandaris. I think they are present in so much density that one cannot avoid talking about it when it comes to Vasai. –Adivasai (talk) 04:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC) Vadaval is another community living in Vasai. Mainly involved in farming, this community is called Somavanshiya Kshatriyas and are surnamed mainly 'Save'(pronounced as SAWE) but they are also have Patil, Mhatre, Rauts, Vartak,Chaudhary, Churi etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.87.27.109 (talk) 16:44, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is the information mentioned here authentic?

[edit]

There is a part of the text that tells us about origins of Samvedi surnames Naik, Vartak, Mhatre, etc. The author says that this community might be a part of Agri community. However, the theory is open to very serious questions...

All these surnames viz.,Raut, Patil, Mhatre, Joshi, Vartak, etc also come under other castes too. & they are not given as per explanations provided by the author. e.g. "The one who used to make- up the actors by decorating them with “Patt” i.e. dress, crown etc. were called “Pattolika”. These makeup men community were later called “Pattils” i.e. “Patil”." The word Patil in Maharashtra has not come from Samvedi caste. Instead Samvedis have taken the surname from other castes. So there should not be any explanation for its origin in the Samvedi caste.

One more thing, Samved is one of the four vedas, study of which was available to only Brahmins. Hence, Samvedi is a pure subcaste of Brahmins. Whereas Agri is more similar to Koli, which stays in seashore area & do the business of Salt & nowadays Reti(Sand). Both these castes were nowhere interconnected by their cultures in the history, such as language or traditions. Hence connecting them just by their surnames is not a good way to base the theory upon.

There is no evidence of stay of Samvedis before some centuries. This might be because they have come from another area. & the theory of their being brought by Peshwas or some other dynasty is more logical. Adivasai (talk) 04:50, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True Vasai?

[edit]

Though this page gives the reader very useful information, such as history, etc., the true Vasai as it is today is somewhat missing in the page. If someone utters the word Vasai, what will be the first images which would pop up in our minds? 1. Killa(Vasai Fort). 2. Christianity, Vadaval, Samvedi, Bhandari, Koli, Agari, etc. communties. 3. Vasai Kala Krida Mahotsav. 4. Suruchi baag & other beaches in the area. 5. Chimaji Appa ground & the memorial. 6. Various vaadis & bunglows or houses therein. 7. Vasai Road Station. 8. New areas developed nearby Station, such as Anand Nagar, etc.

You may add other things as per your experience.

However, this things are either not taken into account, or not given full attention to present it as it is in our Vasaikars' minds.

Apparently copyrighted text removed

[edit]

I've removed two rather large blocks of text that appear to be imported papers and are likely subject to copyright. In general, this article remains in a state that requires a lot of work. Serpent's Choice (talk) 04:43, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aggressive clean up

[edit]

This article is a complete mess. I realise that a merge was proposed recently but regardless of that it is my intention soon to scrub the thing of all items for which cite requests have been outstanding over a period of 6 months or more. Some of them go back to 2007!

Usually, I would try to source stuff but in this case the situation is so poor that it would be simpler to start over. - Sitush (talk) 08:33, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done it. That was a completely ridiculous situation. - Sitush (talk) 09:44, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism - Changing name of the Vasai region to "Mhatre Ilaka"

[edit]

Someone is upto mischief. They had written that the Vasai region was called "Mhatre Ilaka", which is slang for "Mhatre Territory" which is obviously ridiculous. They even provided a reference!!!- www.vasaitaluka.in. The site does not exist anymore. They had injected the Mhatre word in other places in the article as well. This is not funny. The Vasai region is under-appreciated in terms of its rich history. The region and the events that tool place here have had a massive and far-reaching impact on the history of entire India. Lets be vigilant about impish attempts at vandalizing this page.
