Nelinho article
[edit]Hello. I've noticed an edit war between you and User:Maracana on this article over the countyofbirth field. I don't agree with Maracana's approach to mass editing of these types of articles (without any discussion) but his view is that the infobox should identify the name of the country at the time of the person's birth. There has been a great deal of discussion about this (especially for former Soviet republics), and I believe the concensus is to use the name of the country at the time of the person's birth. In short, I don't think it's worth arguing with him about it (I've given up). Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Jogurney, thank for your message. Yes I agree that this "war" does not make much sense and i don't plan to dedicate much time to it, although I do not like these modifications without discussion. My contention is precisely with the "country at the time of the person's birth". Believe me, I am Portuguese living in Mozambique and I know that the use of the term "Portuguese East Africa" as well as "Portuguese West Africa" was very limited most for propaganda purposes, not written in the fascist constitution of 1933 even. I was born in Angola, and my Portuguese ID and Passport still say, and have always said, that I was born in Angola and not in Portuguese West Africa (I can send you scans of them). These terms were never used as in the former French colonies, where there were stamps from the French West Africa and so on (I used to collect stamps). There were never stamps or bank notes of Portuguese East Africa....
- The article on Portuguese East Africa is misleading because Mozambique was a colony not a collection of colonies (the very good Portuguese article on the history of Mozambique makes that very clear http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hist%C3%B3ria_de_Mo%C3%A7ambique) and there is no article on "África Oriental Portuguesa" which would be the Portuguese equivalent to Portuguese East Africa.
- I do not want to bore you more with the subject but I hope that after describing my point of view I can only become incensed when somebody says that "Mozambique did not even existed in 1941". Excuse me? and continues to change articles without any justification....Once again, thanks for your message Teixant (talk) 21:29, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
