Exported to Nigeria?[edit]

VW Igala

I'd like to see a citation on how many (if any at all) were exported to Nigeria. They were not known in the major cities there in the mid-seventies, and were unsuitable for the Nigerian market. I suspect someone has got confused between the SP2 and the Rio (a vaguely similar mid-seventies VW from Brasil that was exported to Nigeria), a four-door air-cooled model also with twin headlamps and a 'shark' front. --Centrepull (talk) 21:31, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that what you refer to as the "Rio" was the Volkswagen Brasilia, which was actually assembled as the "Volkswagen Igala" in Nigeria. As for the SP2, you may very well be right, but VW had a presence in Nigeria and also close links to VW do Brasil, so who knows? I recommend placing a {{cn}} (citation needed) tag on the quote, and if no one comes up with a source in a few months or so, then out it goes. This link suggests that there might be some in Nigeria. Very vague, though. Similar numbers as in the article are mentioned here, where they are attributed to a Volksworld article. Does anyone have Volksworld back issues?  Mr.choppers | ✎  04:05, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

155 VW SP2 are said to have been exported to Nigeria mostly as CKD. I myself have used parts for my SP2 that came from Nigerian stocks. Espenator (talk) 17:38, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
