Album Cover[edit]

The album cover is from an old CD (bootleg?) reissue. Someone should replace it immidiately. Rostere (talk) 13:15, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I checked into this and the issue appears to be various colors of the basic cover illustration, on various cheap CD releases starting in the early 90s. I have replaced the image with the cover of the 2006 "Original Recording Reissued/Remastered" edition which apparently recreates the original album faithfully. Really knowledgeable Venom fans should follow up on this too. Doomsdayer520 (Talk|Contribs) 10:27, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Black metal[edit]

I added black metal to the genre of this album, but it was taken because the term wasnt "coined" until the next album. I put it there as black metal because regardless whether it was not called black metal when that album came out, the sound is still there. It even says that in the info on the same page. So therefore, im going to put it back. Okram 09 (talk) 10:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to cause an edit war, but calling this a black metal album requires sources. It wasn't called black metal when it was released, and I doubt it would be called black metal if it was released today. Of course it was influential for the genre, but it's sound is very different to that described on the genre's article. Instead, myself and many others regard it as a pioneering thrash metal album. Thus I'm going to remove black metal until it's supported by at least two reliable sources. ~Asarlaí 15:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, though i wasn't trying to necessarily label this album as just black metal. I just wanted to add black metal along with thrash and speed metal in the genre box because it even quotes on the same page that "While the term "black metal" may have not been created until Venom's second album, it can be noted that "Welcome to Hell" contains common speed metal elements, and that it has a decidedly darker and doomed feel, a characteristic of black metal." So i just wanted to add black metal to the genre box because even though it wasn't called black metal at that time, it had the similar characteristics of black metal on the album which later appeared more frequently on their second album, "Black metal". the album sure is a pioneering thrash album, but it is also an influence on future black metal bands. I have know idea why black metal isn't mentioned anywhere in this article. Yes this album is a speed metal album, if not very much the first thrash metal album. But the very first charactaristics and traits of black metal go back to this album, and not mentioning it anywhere in this page seems wrong. Disagree with me all you want the orgins of black metal (and speed metal) draw back to this album. 72.209.181.76 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:42, 30 June 2011 (UTC).[reply]

If you want a reliable source for black metal just look at Allmusic. After all, Almusic counts as a reliable! source on Wikipedia. 174.253.130.124 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:17, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proto-thrash[edit]

Added proto-thrash in genre since it seems alot more appropiate than calling it first-wave black metal. This WAS the album that helped pioneer thrash metal after all. //User:TheWiselyStupidOne, 15 September 2011 —Preceding undated comment added 16:41, 15 September 2011 (UTC). This album pioneered thrash AND black metal. Many consider this album the birth place of black metal. 98.191.90.162 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:23, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Genres need a reference[edit]

Lots of reverting and adding over genre, but it could be saved with some good WP:RS references on genre. The only current reference doesn't categorize this album to a sub-genre of metal at all. Rather is says: "crystallized the elements of what later became known as thrash, death, black, and virtually every other form of extreme metal" ... which doesn't support classifying it as any genre. Note that "speed" and "speed metal" doesn't occur in the references at all. --Klaun (talk) 21:42, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
