Wigmore Street was, certainly into the 1970s, a street where many opticians practised and firms of opticians had their workshops and flagship dispensaries (for example, Clement Clarke). Sadly, I don't know any references to support this – it's just a memory – but if anyone can find anything about it, it could be mentioned in the article.
