No copyvio here[edit]

Massive amounts of information were removed here stating they were copyvio. They were not. Mugginsx (talk) 18:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained change of the styling of this editors citations which serves no purpose since the references were valid and maintained by changing editor. 18:56, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I'm not sure what you mean by changing the referencing style. What I did was consolidate the references so that there weren't duplicates in the reference list, and put them into a style rather than bare links.

However in regard to the earlier point, there was a lot of copyvio, so I rewrote it (rather than deleted the content) to remove it. The problem is generally very close paraphrasing from the original sources - one or two words have been changed, but the text is almost identical to the source being used. For example, in the article we have:

1. William Mullins, born about 1593. He came to Plymouth after his father’s death and was in Duxbury by 1637. He married (1) _____ by 1618 and had one daughter. He married (2) Ann (____) Bell in Boston on May 7, 1656, as her second husband. He died in 1674 and his estate was administered by his daughter’s third husband in Braintree, Massachusetts.

2. Joseph Mullins, born about 1596 and died in Plymouth during the winter of 1620/1.

3. Sarah Mullins, born about 1598. She married ____ Blunden by 1621. She was awarded administration of her father’s estate in Dorking in July 1621. No further information about her..

4. Priscilla Mullins, born about 1602. She married John Alden before 1623 and had ten children. She died between 1651 and John’s death on September 12, 1687. The Mullins-Alden-Standish romantic triangle was the inspiration of many Pilgrim stories. John and Priscilla Alden were buried in the old Duxbury Burying Ground

The source is americanancestors.org [1], which is copyrighted. There the text reads:

William was born about 1593. He married (1) _____ _____ by 1618 and had one daughter. He married (2) Ann (_____) Bell in Boston on May 7, 1656, as her second husband. He died in 1674.

Joseph was born about 1596 and died in Plymouth during the winter of 1620/1.

Sarah was born about 1598. She married _____ Blunden by 1621. She was awarded administration of her father’s estate in Dorking in July 1621, but there is no further information.

Priscilla was born about 1602. She married John Alden before 1623 and had ten children. She died between 1651 and John’s death on September 12, 1687.

With some of the text clearly copied, other text which is close to the original sources becomes more problematic. Rather than just delete the text I had rewritten it, so what I'll try to do today is combine my rewrite with some of your more recent additions. Hopefully we won't loose any content, but will get something which is sufficiently removed from the sources being used. - Bilby (talk) 23:07, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how one paraphrases one's date of birth and death and children's names. It is pretty much a list of facts that I do not believe are copyrightable since they originally come from public records. However, I will try. Thanks. Mugginsx (talk) 13:49, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
