In this Find A Grave information, I found that May Bettendorf was an older sister to Henry and Etta, as she wrote in a letter from 1893 that I also found in family records.
I am sad that here in Wikipedia May is not even mentioned. She wrote in a letter to her Cousin, Charles Helmig of Peru, IL, that Henry and Etta sent kisses...when she was about 14.
Find A Grave information said that an obituary said that she was an adopted daughter.
In the Henrietta obituary (spelling not confirmed), or Etta, as written in May's letter, it is stated she was the only child (since Henry had passed on just before that from diphtheria).
However, May's obit states she lived till 1955, I am so curious what happened to her and why this is not clear online.
I read this information from the link in this article to Find a Grave.
