Wilson Price Hunt vs. William Price Hunt
[edit]It seems pretty clear that this man’s name was Wilson, not William. All primary sources I've seen give his name as Wilson Price Hunt (e.g. Franchere, Ross). Several signed documents including his will (see Elliot, T.C.), show that he signed his name as Wilson. All authoritative secondary sources I've seen (Bancroft, Chittenden) also give his name as Wilson. Irving, who knew him, never calls him anything other than Wilson. The references used to cite William as his first name are (1) tertiary internet source with no references given, and (2) a brief summary of the Astorian expedition in a larger volume dealing mostly with an unrelated topic. I would suspect these are just mistakes or misprints.
If no one objects I will change the name of the article from W. Price Hunt to Wilson Price Hunt. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ltshtc1 (talk • contribs) 16:11, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
