Filmography
[edit]This list is a bit too long in my opinion. I think it would be preferable to cut it down to a more representative selection of his works. --Steerpike 12:27, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. Do you know which ones are unworthy? I am cutting out a few I know are't too well known. Karol 12:32, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- He is probably best known for his "english" movie scores such as Dracula, The Ninth Gate or Portrait of a Lady, so those shouldn't be left out, but he also wrote a large number of music for Polish films and TV serials. I'm not exactly an expert on those so I can't really say which ones to include.
- Furthermore, it would be interesting to include some of his better known symphonic works as well, besides a "selected filmography". I think there's quite a few websites dedicated to his work. Should be no problem to find a good overview. --Steerpike 14:31, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Whatever state the list is currently, I think is good. I came to this article trying to find a fairly comprehensive list of his contributions and was happy with what I saw. I feel that the article needs is more biographical data on the man. MCalamari 22:17, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
The list is too long. Oddly, Piano music is omitted. It would be best to hit the highlights. Gingermint (talk) 02:05, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Weird Writing Style
[edit]This could use a re-write. At times the article is amateurish and even "fan-sh." It may even be described as dziecinny. Gingermint (talk) 02:05, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Very much agreed. (Well, I had to look up 'dziecinny'. :) I did a little editing. I guess I can't take more on right now, I'm afraid. Ale And Quail (talk) 20:48, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Pronunciation of his name
[edit]Could someone include the IPA keys for his name? I'm not sure, but I guess it sounds like "Joseph" (Yoi-sech)? ☢ Ҡi∊ff⌇↯ 04:22, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- I asked a Pole once. It's basically pronounced as it's written: "woitshiech kilar" or something. I could be wrong, of course. --Steerpike 00:36, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- The i in the last name is pronounced like the english double e. The best I can do in english is: Voiycheh Keelar. Karol 07:57, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- Right. Forgot that one because in Dutch (I'm Belgian) "i" is pronounced "ee" anyway. --Steerpike 18:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- In IPA, this would be something like /vojčεx kilar/. --Vegalabs 20:07, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's Voy-chek. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.210.238.142 (talk) 14:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC).
- I asked my daughter who was born in US how to say Mr. Kilar's name phonetically and this is what she said: Voy-cheh Kee-lahr. Since I grew up in Poland I know how it should sound, so here it is, hope it helps!76.204.61.187 (talk) 15:45, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
how
[edit]how do u pronounce his name?
- Can you even read? Look above you. --Steerpike 01:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
hey fuck you, you couldve said it a little nicer, and not be an asshole, everybody makes stupid mistakes, jerk
- No personal attacks. You're the one who starts namecalling. Maybe I wasn't polite but I wasn't hostile either. --Steerpike 21:39, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- "Can you even read?" sounds like a personal attack to me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.105.167.39 (talk) 16:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC).
Please clarify conflicting sources
[edit]Note: The problem below now seems largely or entirely solved.Tlhslobus (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Could some expert please clarify the following conflict between sources:
The University of Southern California tells us here: As a student he studied piano with Władysława Markiewiczówna and composition with Bolesław Szabelski at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice.
The Adam Mickiewicz Institute tells us here: Kilar attended the State College of Music (currently the Music Academy) in Katowice, where he studied piano performance and composition under Bolesław Woytowicz.
As only the latter citation was offered, I amended the text to fit the citation, thus removing the then unsourced claim that he also studied under Władysława Markiewiczówna, as also claimed wthout source in her biographical article. I note that Bolesław Szabelski's biographical article says he taught at Katowice until 1939, and gives a source for this (Kilar graduated from Katowice in 1955, 16 years after 1939), which might arguably suggest the University of Southern California may be wrong.
And at that point I leave the question to others. Tlhslobus (talk) 08:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Note: The problem above now seems largely or entirely solved, after finding additional information at the official website, and incorporating it into the article.Tlhslobus (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Any justification for calling Kilar American?
[edit]This article is currently placed in a number of categories such as Category:American classical composers and Category:American classical pianists, but I can't see anything in the article that supports his classification as American. Should these categories be removed, or am I missing something? --Deskford (talk) 22:22, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
- I do not see anything in this article that would justify the use of those categories. I think they should be deleted, but I'd wait for others' comments before proceeding with that. Toccata quarta (talk) 10:16, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll wait a few days to see if anyone else comments. --Deskford (talk) 20:24, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
- No-one else has responded, so I have removed those categories. --Deskford (talk) 15:12, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll wait a few days to see if anyone else comments. --Deskford (talk) 20:24, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
