For information

[edit]

A recent post at the Teahouse has highlighted that "... there is important new information to add to the article on Wulfric Spot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wulfric_Spot What may be his seal matrix has finally been acquired by the British Museum. See the history blog article at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/57398"

I appreciate we don't accept personal blogs as sources, but no doubt interested parties may wish to investigate and verify. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 15:11, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the tweet from an (unverified) curator at the British Museum:[1]. Here's a usable ref,[1] though it would help if someone with a subscription could get more details like whether it came directly from the Schøyen Collection[2] or there was someone else in between. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 04:46, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spot

[edit]

I'm afraid it's not true that the byname isn't mentioned in any other contemporary sources - There is an Alfric in the St Peter’s Abbey-Church Acquittances (Bath) Acquittances, and a moneyer named Godric Spot Faust.TSFL (talk) 17:28, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have clarified that the source does not say that the byname was not used earlier at all, only that it was not applied to Wulfric. Dudley Miles (talk) 17:39, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
