If his name is "Yi Han-yong", how then is the surname "Ri"?!

Wiki needs to make up its mind which spelling to use. The Hwang Jang Yop page, for example, uses the Ri spelling.

I should note, btw, that the Hangul is different for the North and South Korean spellings. Southern version reflects "Yi" whereas Northern version more literally "Ri". Was this carried over into English, i.e., using "Ri" for his early years, and "Yi" for years post-defection?

"Yi Han-yong" is a cover name he used while in the South, so it's spelled in the Southern style. "Ri Il-nam" is his birth name, and seeing as he was born in the North, we spell it using the Northern style. This is analogous to WP:ENGVAR cab (call) 01:13, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
the tag This is a Korean name; the family name is "Ri" is supposed to refer to NAME ORDER only; not some previous name CHANGE. had he been using "PARK Han-yong" as a cover name, would the tag still read "Ri"?!
Given that "Yi Han-yong" is the name of the article, the tag should read "...Yi is the surname". His "real name" or "previous name" etc can be explained elsewhere. 66.3.106.3 (talk) 22:21, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
