Caprella equilibra

[edit]
Caprella equilibra
Caprella equilibra
  • ... that the diet of the skeleton shrimp Caprella equilibra (pictured) consists mainly of detritus, but it also feeds on the hydroids to which it clings? Source: "In the species Caprella equilibra, C. liparotensis and Pseudoprotella phasma digestive contents also included a significant contribution of hydroids. Caprellids clinging on hydroids have been reported as cleptocommensalists, exploiting the food collected by polyps, mainly plankton. However, this study shows that some caprellids can feed on the hydroids themselves."
