Lübeck disaster
- ... that over 170 children showed signs of tuberculosis and over 70 died in the Lübeck disaster (1929–1933) after being given BCG vaccines contaminated with the bacteria responsible for TB? Source: "In an accident later known as the Lübeck disaster, 251 neonates were orally given three doses of the new Bacille Calmette–Guérin (BCG) antituberculosis (TB) vaccine contaminated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A total of 173 infants developed clinical or radiological signs of TB but survived the infection, while 72 died from TB." Tuberculosis in Newborns: The Lessons of the “Lübeck Disaster” (1929–1933)

- Article is new and long enough
- Article meets core policies: neutral, inline citations, no copyright infringement
- The hook is OK on length, interest to a general readership and accurate, although should use the exact numbers from the article rather than over 170 and over 70; also, spell out tuberculosis rather than TB.
- Suggestion: change the name of the article to Lübeck vaccination disaster
- Create sections. Suggestions: Contaminated vaccine for the second paragraph and Legal consequences for the remainder of the article.
- Delete sentence and ref "Illustrator Emil Stumpp drew portraits of those involved in the trial.[7]" as that adds nothing to the notability.
- QPQ: User:AFreshStart appears to have five earlier DYKs, so a QPQ is required.
- "DYK eligibility requires additional work."
- @David notMD: Thanks for the review! Happy to use the specific numbers and spell out tuberculosis in the hook. "Lübeck disaster" seems to be the more common name in English sources than "Lübeck vaccination disaster", but also happy to change that to fit the common name in German sources if you wish. I have created sections and removed the sentence about Stumpp in the article. Did not realise QPQ was needed for me here, apologies; I have recently reviewed Template:Did you know nominations/Goliath Tabuni so would like to add that if possible. - I feel that either Lubeck vaccine disaster or vaccination disaster will cause more people to click to the article. I have an errand out, but later today will be able to give the references a once over, then fully expect to approve this. David notMD (talk) 17:59, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Totally understood. I have no objection to changing it in the hook (Lübeck vaccine disaster redirects to the article). Thank you! —🎄☃️❄️ Season's greetings from AFreshStart (talk) ❄️☃️🎄 21:35, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ref #8, page 17721, right column, states that vaccination became compulsory in East Germany in 1953, not 1952. Please fix the article. Other than that, good to go, so I will tag this as approved. David notMD (talk) 21:58, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
