Created by Maias (talk), Orlady (talk). Nominated by Orlady (talk) at 02:33, 15 July 2013 (UTC).

  • Symbol confirmed.svg The article meets all DYK criteria - new enough, long enough, reliably referenced, and has no copyright violations. The hook is referenced and the image has a proper fair use tag. SL93 (talk) 18:35, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Symbol question.svg Pulling from the queue due to concerns that Maias has raised about the hook fact. --Orlady (talk) 02:58, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

::::... that Motunau Island, with an area of just 3 ha (7.4 acres), supports half of the White-faced Storm Petrels' New Zealand breeding population? SL93 (talk)

... that Motunau Island, with an area of just 3 ha (7.4 acres), supports a colony of 5000 White-flippered Penguins (pictured) and is the breeding site for half of New Zealand's White-faced Storm Petrels? SL93 (talk) 03:32, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the suggestions, SL93. The issue is that it is very unclear what the source means with respect to the White-faced Storm Petrel. I have learned from other sources that this bird has large world-wide distribution and that there are several recognized subspecies (none of which is called the "New Zealand White-faced Storm Petrel"). There is no way that this island hosts half of the world's breeding population, and it's unlikely to host half of the New Zealand breeding population. We need to revise the article before revising the hook. --Orlady (talk) 14:01, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
  • I've found another source -- one that I think was the basis for a lot of the information in the source previously cited -- and edited the article. I'd like for Maias to see the changes before we start proposing new hooks. --Orlady (talk) 04:06, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Your new source appears to be an excellent one, though I cannot access it through the link given - maybe my problem. Yes, Otago in this case would refer to the peninsula; I have amended the link in the article. Maias (talk) 04:37, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Symbol redirect vote 4.svg Let's try this for a hook:
  • Symbol confirmed.svg The new hook (ALT3) looks fine. It's interesting and properly sourced, and the addition of a new source seems to have resolve the issues discussed above. Prioryman (talk) 19:39, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
