Stora Blåsjön

[edit]

Stora Blåsjon

Created by GoingBatty (talk), Werldwayd (talk), and BabbaQ (talk). Nominated by BabbaQ (talk) at 15:56, 2 December 2013 (UTC).

  • - My calculations make this 1485 chars which I would overlook if it wasn't that the lede contains nearly every bit of the remaining article. The lede is intended to summarise and at present the lede is almost all that is required. Needs significant expansion and a reduction in the size of the lede to be within the idea and the spirit of the rules. Victuallers (talk) 10:36, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
  • I have expanded the article and changed some of the lede so it isnt exactly similar. Also the lede is supposed to summarise the article and I have made a over 1500 chars article. If you still do not feel satisfied I would ask for a third opinion from a user. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 12:41, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
  • I'd give a Go here, but just pointing out that the founding of the town has been mentioned twice. I feel it is redundant to mention it in the lead, since it is present below and is sourced out there. I understand that doing so would bring the article to below 1500 chars, maybe a few tweaks here and there can be done to increase character count. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 13:39, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Done. :)--BabbaQ (talk) 14:43, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
adding "{{subst:DYKtick}} Good 2 go.--~~~~" is not a sufficient QPQ-review. Please review another article where you elaborate what you review and why it meets the DYK-criteria. The review you have used as a QPQ in this nomination have been questioned and continued by other editors - if not I would have asked you to go back and re-review that nomination. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mentoz86 (talkcontribs) 17:29, 4 December 2013‎
Done.--BabbaQ (talk) 12:48, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Reinstating tick per original review. The ALT-hook was added after the original review, and I've struck it given that it is 208 characters. Mentoz86 (talk) 14:13, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
The hook is very weak, can't a better one be found? Gatoclass (talk) 10:27, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
  • I think I'll just add a trimmed version of ALT1:
  • ALT2: ... that Stora Blåsjön (pictured) became known all over Sweden in 1971 when 20 miners went on a hunger strike there? Gatoclass (talk) 10:32, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT3: ... that the town of Stora Blåsjön, Sweden, (pictured) has a moose farm? Gatoclass (talk) 10:41, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
I think both hooks are good. Nice work.--BabbaQ (talk) 13:54, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
  • I like ALT3 because it's short and sweet, but I see a few problems with the article. I gave it a good copyedit, and now it's standing at 1475 char. Overall, the presentation is rather sketchy and lacks basic information. Filling out the information so the article sounds less like a travel diary and more like an encyclopedic article would bring it up to the "start" class acceptable for DYK.
    1. Where is the town located? The article gives distances from other places, but not compass directions. It's also significant that it lies next to a mountain and a lake (this information is in the Blasjon.com website).
    2. What is Brakkåfallet? The fact that the town is "known for" Brakkåfallet and Korallgrottan needs to be linked.
    3. The citation for the moose farm being "in the center of town" is the moose farm's own site. There is no citation for the statement in the lead that "Stora Blåsjön is also known for its moose farm". Are there any secondary sources that talk about the moose farm?
    4. A year needs to be provided for the (current?) population figure of 80.
  • Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:09, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
How about
  • ALT4... that the Mesklumpen skiing site near Stora Blåsjön (pictured), featuring a drop of 525 metres (1,722 ft), is in fourth place amongst the top skiing sites of Sweden?

By the way after my expansion it now stands at 2632 characters. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 07:04, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Or we can modify ALT3 by Gatoclass:

  • ALT5: ... that the town of Stora Blåsjön, Sweden, (pictured) has a moose farm featuring a pair of moose named Hilda and Herbert?

  • Thank you, Dr. K., for coming to the rescue and making the article much more solid. Article is new enough, long enough, well-referenced, no close paraphrasing seen in English-language sources. QPQ done. I prefer ALT5; hook ref verified. If the administrator prefers ALT4, foreign-language hook ref AGF. Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 10:12, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you very much Yoninah for your kind words and for your work copyediting and cleaning up the article. Actually ALT4 is backed up by the English version of the Stora Blåsjön website. I will add English quotes from the website for easy verification. Best regards. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 17:18, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your assistance, both of you :)--BabbaQ (talk) 19:50, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
