Clemson by most sources was considered the outright champion and 1900 was Heisman's first season and perfect season. Neither Auburn (only 4 games) nor Tulane claim an SIAA championship for this season. [1][2][3]SportsEdits1 (talk) 23:47, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for these sportsedits. Only rarely do I have someone else interested in the SIAA. Fine sources to show what the schools claim - though there is the further issue of newspapers and such. A good starting point is here and here. See the 1908 Auburn article for one counterexample to the titles claimed by the school and the issues faced in avoiding in anachronism. h/t for the sourcing. I read the above links (via archive.org). There is a longterm 1900 Auburn claim at Auburn Tigers football, but no claim on 1900 Auburn Tigers football team or this template. I acknowledge the inconsistency and defer you if you want to adjust in either direction. I think the Clemson document clearly establishes the 1900 Clemson claim, however the Auburn document omits 1900, 1904, 1908, AND 1910, where the CFB project currently attributes 1904, 1908, and 1910. So perhaps the Auburn document is simply omitting this era. There was no clarity in the 2019 Auburn media guide at a glane and regardless, newspapers.com would be much better. Made harder by the fact after Sewanee's 1899 year, they wanted to give them the Southern title for 1900 as well, but they lost to UVA. Had there been some post-season tournament, Sewanee would still probably have been favored. Cake (talk) 18:12, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
