Update?[edit]

Doesn't this Infobox look.. outdated compared to others? Joe Davison 07:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

About Space Shuttles or space shuttles? Rich Farmbrough, 20:07, 2 June 2010 (UTC). Any space shuttles. Rich Farmbrough, 20:10, 2 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Space Shuttle is a name and should be capitalized. A space shuttle is not a space vehicle class like space planes, lifting bodies or capsules are.--Craigboy (talk) 03:40, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Resting place?[edit]

I propose we include a new field titled "Resting place" or "Permanent home" at the bottom of the box for reader's quick reference as to where the vehicle is retired. I'b be bold, but the code looks beyond my comfort zone. --Travis Thurston+ 03:13, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had the same thought while reading up on them. There needs to be a GeoHacks location for each of the orbiters that survived. This will allow applications and data aggregators to identify these locations and present them in mapping and Geo-location services. As far as resting place, "Present Location" or simply "Location" works for me. - Srwalden (talk) 13:03, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Shuttle flags[edit]

I just uploaded a series of graphics of the shuttle flags -- see Commons:Category:Flags of Space Shuttle orbiters. I think they were typically flown at Kennedy while the orbiters were on the launch pad or in space; a bit more information here. NASA used one as a shuttle symbol on at least one page, seen here. They also served a symbolic purpose at NASA shuttle retirement ceremonies... see here and here. Would it be a good idea to add them to the infobox, or are they too obscure? Purpose of the infobox[edit]

The {{Infobox space shuttle}} was used by two non-shuttle spacecraft (SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour and Boeing CST-100 Starliner Spacecraft 3), which were replaced by the infoboxes used on aircraft. However, the purpose of the {{Infobox space shuttle}} is limited to the winged orbiters. Should we extend the purpose to every single spacecraft? If so, then we would have to add additional paramaters to the infobox and rename it "Infobox spacecraft". --Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 14:21, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Uh--no. Use the infobox only for what it was clearly intended, and don't make life more complicated than it has to be. JustinTime55 (talk) 14:56, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If we were to create one just for Boeing/SpaceX what would we call it? OkayKenji (talk page) 22:44, 11 June 2020 (UTC)"Infobox spacecraft" would workOkayKenji (talk page) 22:45, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Staring to create a test infobox here User:OkayKenji/Infobox spacecraft OkayKenji (talk page) 22:52, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JustinTime55, OkayKenji, and Soumya-8974: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe {{Infobox space shuttle}} was used on those articles because it was the best analogue we could get for {{Infobox spacecraft}}, which was depecrated and deleted in favour of {{Infobox spaceflight}}, which isn't well optimised for articles on individual spacecraft. If we could get a proper infobox for articles on individual spacecraft rather than spaceflight missions, i.e. Gemini spacecraft No. 2, Command Module Columbia, Perseverance (rover), ect., it would be great, and {{Infobox space shuttle}} serves as a good starting point, methinks. Kenji, may I have permission to make some additions to the test page you created? – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 17:23, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PhilipTerryGraham: Yes! I moved it to User:OkayKenji/Infobox individual space vehicles though. Since I saw Category:Individual space vehicles OkayKenji (talk page) 19:04, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was creating an userspace draft template called "Infobox space vehicle" for this purpose on 2019. However, the draft has since been dormant. --Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 18:29, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
