How will this interact with the non-displaying "Y" or "N" included when these templates are transcluded? This template is transcluded a few thousand times, and I would hate to do that to the poor servers if this is a non-issue. - 2/0 (cont.) 05:16, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

The non-displaying Y and N are so they sort correctly and adding alt text doesn't change the functionality. See User:Gnevin/sandbox7 Gnevin (talk) 13:53, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Request edit to alt text to match graphic "Green tick" instead of current "yes". Reason: this is used for things other than the word yes i.e. "support", "approved", "reliable", "solved", etc. ~ R.T.G 00:59, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Used in hundreds of articles

The documentation says "It is not for use in articles." but the tick is used in hundreds of articles, particularly via other templates such as {{Rugbybox}} and {{Chembox}} and etc.

Either the documentation needs updating (easy), or an entirely new "tick template for use in articles" needs to be created and propagated (hard). I'm not sure why the latter would be needed, but I'm sleepy, so...? –Quiddity (talk) 07:04, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

I notice that the image generated by this template has an HTML ALT tag of "Yes check.svg". In-line with WP:ACCESSIBILITY this is rather unsatisfactory - it should simply say "yes" to support screen readers for blind users. I would like to suggest that an extra parameter is added to this template to allow editors to specify a custom ALT tag, e.g.

{{tick|alt=completed}}

which would then generate

<img alt="completed" src="//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fb/Yes_check.svg/20px-Yes_check.svg.png">

This should also be added to all the other related templates listed here under the See also heading. I think @Bazza 7: will probably agree! Can anyone make this change?

Tick is usually used as a shorthand in talk discussions. I think supplying an alt in transclusions is therefore a bit unrealistic, but allowing the option does no harm I suppose. Regarding a default, I suppose MOS:ACCIM and MOS:ALT are appropriate to consider here, I can see the accessibility concern raised. I'm not sure all the "see also" templates meet the need for an alt; they are typically accompanied by text next to them to actually explain the purpose (so eg for  Done having an alt would be like "Done done"). But as this is solely an image, it could be appropriate to set its default alt to "tick". ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 18:17, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

It's down to context of usage, which is why I requested the option to specify an alt tag text. Specifically, in this table I would like to use the words "completed" and "not completed". The {{Tick}} template would be slightly less cumbersome than writing out the wiki image embed code each time. Also, article use in tables is in-line with WP:APPROPRIATEICONS, so I don't foresee any problems here. Are you concerned about mmisuse in some way? Cnbrb (talk) 13:42, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
