Professional wrestling career

Pro Wrestling Xpress

Evans, under his real name, made his professional wrestling debut on February 19, 2005, where he defeated Brandon X in a match at Pro Wrestling Xpress' Burgh Brawl event.[3] Soon after his debut, he defeated Daron Smythe for the territory's Brass Knuckles Championship on April 2.[3] After retaining the championship against Smythe in a rematch on April 16, Evans began feuding with Scott Venom over the championship, and defeated him on May 14 to retain the title.[3] Two weeks later, the two had a rematch for the title, this time in a no disqualification match, which Evans also won.[3] On June 11, Venom defeated Evans for the Brass Knuckles Championship.[3]

After the title loss, Evans challenged Brandon K for the territory's Heavyweight Championship on September 8, 2006, but was unsuccessful.[4] On September 22, he wrestled his final match for PWX as he lost to Chris Taylor in a three-way match also involving Kano.[4]

World Wrestling Entertainment

Florida Championship Wrestling

After continuing to wrestle on the independent circuit throughout 2006 and 2007, Evans made his debut in World Wrestling Entertainment's developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling on May 3, 2008 in a losing effort to Atlas DaBone.[4] After wrestling in FCW over the following weeks, Evans, under the ring name Tyrone Jones, lost a dark match to Jamie Noble on July 21 prior to Raw.[1] After the dark match, Evans returned to FCW while using the Tyrone Jones name before it was changed to Tyson Tarver on September 25. Tarver then joined The Saxton Conglomerate, a faction comprised of Black Pain, Lawrence Knight and leader Byron Saxton. Tarver had his first match with the Conglomerate on October 30, where he, Pain and Drew McIntyre lost to Johnny Prime, Kafu and Kizarny.[5] Prime soon began feuding with the Conglomerate and on December 16, Tarver and Saxton lost to Prime and Ralph Mosca.[5] The Conglomerate's lack of success continued as Tarver and Knight lost to Prime and Kaleb O'Neal.[5] However, O'Neal would turn on Prime to join the Conglomerate. On January 22, 2009, O'Neal and Knight lost to Tyler Reks and Johnny Curtis in a match for the Florida Tag Team Championship.[5] Later that night, Tarver, O'Neal and Knight lost to Kizarny, Ricky Ortiz and DJ Gabriel.[5] The Conglomerate split soon afterwards. Despite splitting, Tarver reunited with O'Neal and Knight to defeat Brett DiBiase, Maverick Darsow and Tank Mulligan on February 13.[5]

After a brief feud with Skip Sheffield in November 2009, Tarver began pursuing the Florida Heavyweight Championship in 2010, but lost to the champion Justin Angel in two title matches.[5]

NXT

On February 16, 2010, it was announced that Tarver was one of the eight FCW wrestlers that would be competing on the WWE NXT show, with Carlito as his storyline mentor.[6] On February 23 at NXT's inaugural show Tarver and Carlito were defeated by Christian and Heath Slater in a tag team match.[7]
