The 932d Airlift Wing (932 AW) is a wing of the United States Air Force located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. The 932d Airlift Wing is responsible for providing Distinguished Visitor support)[1]

The 3rd Sustainment Brigade is responsible for providing logistical support to the 3rd Infantry Division, however the modular nature of the brigade means that it takes on other roles while deployed. Personnel serving under this brigade wear the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia exclusive to this brigade, rather than the insignia designated for the 3rd Infantry Division.

Though its lineage dates back to 1957, the unit was not designated as a separate unit until 2005. The 3rd Sustainment Brigade has served three tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, its first tour being the initial invasion and securing of the country, followed by a second tour of duty as logistics support for units around Baghdad, and finally as the multinational division supply lines in the northern division of the country. As of late 2007, the brigade is deployed as a subordinate of the 316th Expeditionary Support Command in its mission of supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Mission[edit]

Provide first-class, worldwide, safe, and reliable airlift for distinguished visitors and their staffs.

History[edit]

The 932d conducted airlift and airdrop of troops and supplies from 1963-1967, and worldwide military airlift from 1965-1969. It trained for trapeze recovery of NASA space capsules through 1969. From 1969 to 2005 it had been associated with the active-duty 375th Airlift Wing, operating the military aeromedical airlift system; providing integrated aircrews, inflight medical crews, and aircraft maintenance. In 2005 the 932d continued to provide aeromedical evacuation crews, but no longer operated the C-9A Nightengale Aeromedical Airlift platform, which was retired from military service. The 932d began flying three C-9C aircraft dedicated to DV airlift. In 2007 the 932d took delivery of three C-40 aircraft, also dedicated to DV airlift.
