Tara Michelle Massicotte[edit]

Tara Michelle Massicotte (born January 5, 1995) is a Canadian Youtube star, who shares lifestyle videos and vlogs. She started her channels in 2013 and has grown them to a combined 1.8 million followers. She goes by the name Tara Michelle as it is easier to remember.

Massicotte studied communications at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario for one semester in the fall of 2013. In 2014, she moved to Los Angeles to attend the Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising (FIDM). She spent less than a year at FIDM before deciding that school was not for her. This has worked out well for her, as her Youtube channels have exploded in popularity and allowed for a financially lucrative career.

Early Life and Family[edit]

Massicotte grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where she attended The York School. She created a successful Tumblr blog during these years. She is one of a family of four. Her mom, Marcy Fruchter is a stay at home mom. Her dad, Mitch Massicotte owned his own business and is now the business manager at Tara Michelle, LLC. Her brother does not like to be on camera, he graduated from Ryerson University in 2020 with an Aerospace Engineering degree. In December 2017, the family welcomed home a dog, a Cavapoo named Bradey (after football player, Tom Brady). [1] The dog has an Instagram account with just shy of eight thousand followers. It is run by Marcy.

Massicotte's mom is Jewish, while her dad is Catholic. She grew up celebrating holidays from both faiths.

Personal Life[edit]

Massicotte rented an apartment while living in downtown Los Angeles. In 2019, she bought her first house, she has since extensively renovated the home. Massicotte dated fellow Youtube creator, Taylor Baxter on and off for three years. They broke up just before quarantine began in March 2020. Massicotte stayed in Los Angeles during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, but as numbers continued to rise she started to question if California was really the place for her. During these months she realized that being so far away from her family was not how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. She flew back to Toronto in September, quarantined with her family, and rented an apartment in mid-town Toronto. She is currently deciding if she wants to become bi-coastal, or move back home to Toronto permanently.

Social Media[edit]

Massicotte's career is largely based on her social media following. She has 334 thousand Instagram followers and 87 thousand Twitter followers. [2][3] She is very active on both platforms and posts daily content in order to keep her followers engaged.

Youtube[edit]

On Youtube, Massicotte has two channels. Her main channel, ImTaraMichelle, has 1.24 million subscribers.[4] She posts one video per week and primarily shares lifestyle content (beauty, fashion, advice, hauls, and food). Her other channel, TaraMichelleVlogz, has 549 thousand subscribers.[5] She posts vlogs three days a week. This is her most popular content, as her followers love to see what she does in her everyday life.

Blog[edit]

Massicotte's blog, imtaramichelle features posts on fashion, lifestyle, travel, and food. Earlier this year her blog became a way to advertise her branded merchandise and items from her new online clothing boutique. Her blog also contains direct links to her social media pages and Youtube channels.[6] It is a way of keeping her readers apprised of content across all of the platforms that she is active on.

Store[edit]

In March 2020, Massicotte opened up an online boutique called “Imagine it Yours,” with her Dad, Mitch.[7]Her mom came up with the name. Massicotte wanted to diversify her income because she knows that there is a chance that her Youtube career will not last forever. The store drops new releases every other Tuesday and includes trendy “LA inspired, items” [8]. The Instagram account has 21.3 thousand followers and drops usually sell out within the day.

Merch[edit]

Before Massicotte launched her store, Imagine it Yours, she created a line of her own merchandise (known as merch). This included a necklace that said “self love,” a t-shirt that said “Babe” and a mug and phone case which featured hand-drawn doodles by Massicotte.[9]

Podcast[edit]

On International Podcast Day, September 30, 2020, Massicotte announced her latest venture, a podcast called “Blind Dating” with Spotify.[10] The series is a fresh take on modern dating. On each episode, Massicotte introduces a hopeful single to the voices of two new romantic matches. After a few rounds of audio-only Q&A's with the potential matches, the dater will pick which match they'd like to date, and then the guests' physical appearances are revealed[11].
