36th Place Pendejas

[edit]

The 36th Place Pendejas (previously known as the 36th Place Paisanos or 36th Place Plebs) is an apartment in Los Angeles near the University of Southern California. There are four female students living in the 3 bed-3 bathroom apartment.

How They Met

[edit]

Alyssa Moore and Simone met in a future USC students Facebook group. They both pretended to be people they actually were not, had a great connection, and decided to be roommates for their first year of college. They chose to live in Parkside Arts and Humanities suites. Alyssa Ishigo chose the "random" option for finding roommates for her freshman year, and fate put her in the same suite as Alyssa and Simone. Alymo and Simone were too cool to talk to Ishigo for approximately their first month of living together.

Although Caitlin and Ishigo were the same major, they were primarily connected through their work at the Biomechanics Injury Research (BIR) Lab on the USC Health Sciences campus. The next year, they both decided to go work in the Fluid-Structure Interaction Lab without knowing about the other's decision to do the same. Labs kept the two in contact, and they found they got along quite well and decided to live together the next year. While looking for housing, Simone asked Ishigo if they would like two more roommates, and the 36th Place Pendejas was born.

The Apartment

[edit]

A short walk from campus, the Pendejas rent an apartment owned by Stuho[2]. The apartment is two stories with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Simone and Alymo both have a their own bedrooms on the first floor. Caitlin and Ishigo share a bedroom on the second story. The kitchen and living room are also on the second floor. The living room includes a 28 inch flat screen television where the Plendejas have enjoyed numerous Netflix and HBO shows, movies, and documentaries.

There is a stray cat that lives around the apartment. Some call the cat Bella and some call it Pancho. One of the neighbors feeds the cat, but this was apparently not enough, the cat ate the other three stray cats.

Events

[edit]

The Pendejas enjoy having groups of friends over to hang out, eat food, maybe play some games. Some of the most notable events held at the apartment:

  • Friendsgiving: An annual tradition, friends are invited over to enjoy Thanksgiving foods a week or two before the actual holiday. This most recent year guests drew hand turkeys, which now serve as decoration in the living room.
  • Board Game Nights: Usually consists of playing games and eating either a heavy dinner or too many snacks or both. Can be either a big event or just a few people, always a great time no matter the number in attendance.
  • Bring Your Own Garlic Bread (BYOGB): Guests were instructed to bring a form of a garlicy carb for a potluck of different types of garlic bread. All in attendance ate a large amount of garlic bread (especially Texas Toast). The night ended with Alyssa tasing Alyssa and Noah solved a level 5 sudoko puzzle.
  • Pasta Night (aka Caitlin's Birthday): A carb loaded supper celebrated Caitlin's birthday. Guests all brought over different types of pasta. After a hearty meal, all of these in attendance were put in a food coma.

Games

[edit]

The Pendejas love playing games

Board Games

[edit]
  • Monopoly:
  • Catan: The Pendejas don't actually own Catan, they usually use Marias. On March 8, 2020, Noah, Team Frarsten, and Alyssa teamed up against Team Leamone to ensure they would not get the longest road. They succeeded, Team Leamone surrendered the longest road title to Team Frarsten, who also won the game.
  • Uno:
  • Betrayal at the House on the Hill:

Electronic Games

[edit]
  • Game Pigeon: During winter break 2018, Simone became obsessed with Game Pigeon games. Her favorite game was 8 ball. Simone also enjoyed Cup Pong, but unfortunately her skills in the game did not translate to real beer pong. As an apartment, the Pendejas enjoyed playing Crazy 8 because they were too cheap to buy the actual physical Uno cards.
  • TypeRacer: Caitlin can type very fast, a backup career for her may be a court stenographer. Turns out Ishigo types slower than a snail.

Transportation

[edit]

At one point all of the Pendejas had either bicycles or skateboards to quickly get around campus and the general USC area. However, both of the Alyssas got at least half of their bikes stolen, but both of them have car. Alyssa is Asian and female and therefore a bad driver. Alymo thinks she is a good driver, but has totaled her car less than two than two weeks after getting her car but it's okay because she got a new Lexus.

Fall Break 2019

[edit]

The Spring 2019 semester was the first semester in which USC had a Fall Break. The Pendejas decided to take a short trip down to Rosarito with their neighbor and friend Leah. They ate tacos, tortillas, chips and salsa and drank margaritas. They rode ATVs. Alyssa Ishigo left the club early and got into the wrong Uber, and proceeded to not pay the man driving because she had no money--to this day the Pendejas do not know how she was not kidnapped. Alymo broke her foot falling off the stage at the club. Questionable, but cheap, hard liquor was consumed by all.
