From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition, referred to as Sonic 3+ in the Sonic Mars notes is an unreleased 1994 video game compilation developed by Sega Technical Institute and planned to be published by Sega for the Sega Genesis; the compilation was planned to feature both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles in one cartridge, with both games being combined in a similar vein to the locked-on version titled Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles; whether or not the lock-on cartridge port was planned to be included was unknown.

Sonic 3 Limited Edition was only officially mentioned in SEGA Magazine, Mean Machines Sega and Famitsu, with the latter stating that it was planned to be released in a 24 megabit (3 megabyte) cartridge.[1] The game was ultimately cancelled for unknown reasons, though two prototypes were uncovered during the February 23, 2008, proto dump.[2]
